Past lives

Not sure if this is the right place to put this, but I am wondering how to go about investigating past lives. I think I can remember bits of 2.

    1. I was born in 1983, and always felt like I was born in the wrong time. I'm 24 now, but always felt very strongly that I should have been this age in the 80's. Everytime I saw anything 80's related I always felt very cheated and that I am living 20 years too late. Then one day I was out walking in the woods, when I suddenly got a really strong image of myself going running in some woods. In this image it was the 80's and I was an Australian girl with a blonde perm. The image and feeling was so strong I felt sure I had been this girl in a past life. Some time later I was hanging out with my boyfriend when he put some headphones on. This seemed to trigger a memory, and suddenly I got an image of us in the early 80's, me as the blone girl and him as an Australian bloke. We were going out flying in a small private plane. He was flying the plane, wearing headphones with a mic to communicate with air traffic control. I just got the feeling that we had crashed and been killed, which is why we died. We shouldn't have died so soon. I've been trying to find out if there were any incidents like that in Australia in the early 80's but can't find anything.

    2. The second one is that I have always hated anything to do with the 1920's. Anytime I see their fashion or hear their music or anything, I have always felt a total aversion to it. I've always thought it seemed like the most unpleasant decade, and felt physically sick at the thought of it. Then one night I had a dream that it was the 20's and me and a few other girls were running down the street. Something or someone was chasing us and we were so scared, I can't describe the absolute terror I felt. We were all crying with fear. The dream itself was in black and white, which is very unusual for me as all my other dreams have been in colour. I was having a sleepover with my boyfriend at the time and when I woke up he asked if I'd had a nightmare as I was crying, shaking and whimpering in my sleep.

I went for past life regression but the therapist was completely unable to hypnotise me. What should I do, I really want to find out more!

The fact that you are dreaming about the 1920s in black and white would strongly suggest that these dreams are influenced by media from the time, not from actually being there (the world wasn't actually black and white in 1920).

Why do you think these are past lives rather than simply dreams or day-dreams? Did you gather any information about the time period that you didn't already know (again this goes back to the black and white, which suggests your brain is inventing the scene, and is unable to fill in details that you yourself haven't seen yourself, such as the colours of the 1920s)

I am of course a sceptic when it comes to these supernatural type things. If you want non-sceptical advice the Paranormal forum is probably your best bet.

You could always make a request to the Australian Transport Safety Bureau, though I'm not sure you have enough info for a proper request (Australian male who may have died in a light air craft crash in the early 1980s isn't a whole lot to go on)

I know it sounds like it could just be a total fantasy, maybe it is. But the black and white thing, most dream "experts" say that dreaming in black and white indicates a depressed mood and there definitely was a bad mood in that dream so maybe that's why. The feeling is just so strong I feel like I've got to investigate it further.

    Are you sure about that?

My understand is that the phenomena of people dreaming in black and white only really was first identified in the early 1950s in America, and corresponded to the recent introduction of black and white television. Up until that point there had been little record of anyone dreaming in black and white, or at least reporting that they had. It is doubtful that people before the invention of photography would even be able to imagine what "black and white" looked like.

Well people have strong dreams. I'm not sure why this alone would make you think it was a past life. The way to test (if that is the right word) is to see if your dreams introduce to you new information, information that is both accurate and specific but that you couldn't possibly know.

"most dream "experts" say that dreaming in black and white indicates a depressed mood"

Most dream experts say that dreaming about flying is really dreaming about having sex... however they don't seem to explain what dreaming of having sex means.

I'm also *highly* skeptical of this sport of thing, so I'm probably not wanted in this thread ;-) I also believe that you cannot explain dreams without knowing a person inside-out - and it's also a major example of "the act of observation changes the event being observed" - the more you think about it, the more you'll dream about it.

IMHO, reincarnation has no logic to it and raises more questions than even an "afterlife" does. It's also vaguely elitist as sooner or later people start talking about "older souls" or those "further along their jouney". This really switches me off.

Be careful you don't miss out on this life, chasing a previous one.

Oh and I concur with wicknight re: black and white dreams. I had a mate once who was african american, and she dreamed in black and white about being a (white) starlet in 1940s movies... she researched the BW thing and told me the same explanation.

Maybe in your past life you were a dog?

    ;-)
