Selling a laptop on Ebay

I have a laptop I need to offload and have been thinking about putting it back on Ebay (first buyer didn't pay, usual carry on with deregistering etc.).

The main concern I have is that if I sell it, send it, and then they turn around and say it's faulty (which I know it isn't) or break it themselves - can they just initiate a chargeback and I'm powerless to do anything? If I sold it in the small ads they could see it working before they bought it and with all the scammers and eejits on Ebay these days I don't know if I should even bother listing it?

You'd have no way to prove it was working before you sent it, so if the buyer claims it was DOA then there'll be very little you can do. A Paypal claim would more than likely go their way. If you decide to put it on eBay, for a larger audience, then you could say delivery is pick up only or local delivery. That way you could ensure both sides see it working when you sell, and payment could be in cash.

Failing that, local ads, adverts.ie or Buy and Sell are your best bet, again with local pick up being the best option.

    Hi

If you are worried about charge backs don't offer paypal as a form of payment, offer cheque, bank transfer, etc.

if you want to sell the laptop on ebay...

include as many photos as possible.... detail any damage...sratches, scrapes etc.

    include a detailed description..

no matter what payment you accept make sure you only offer a registered post service.. the buyer cant say they didnt receive it...

I offloaded a laptop on ebay there before christmas, was fairly painless, just make sure you state what condition its in and as above, takes lots of photos. My one was sold as faulty so I made fully sure it was impossible to miss that fact on the auction page. I made it a UK only auction purely for postage costs etc. You can sign up on ebay for an e-parcel card which gives ebay sellers discounts for posting items with An Post.
Overall just be wary of an email offers you have etc, state your rules in the auction clearly and hopefully you'll get an honest buyer.
