As i right this my PC might just power down and ill have to start again..

It all started when PC which was on shut itself off earlier today.

When i pressed the button the button to turn it back on it wouldnt come back on. my PSU has a button at the back to enable power on from wall socket. i pressed this which was on to the off postion and back to on again.

    PSU http://www.jeantech.com/450.htm

My PC came on but gave the error "Invalid system disk" as if there was no hard drive for windows xp installtion. thinking it was a hard rive failure i tried to boot with the XP recovery disk and got into the recovery mode. MY hard rive in fact all 3 drives were fine. I restarted and windows XP loaded to my surprise but after 10 mins in XP completly by random my PC restarted.

When i say restarted its not quite that it shuts down into a kinda hibernate mode (nothing on screen, DVD rom lights up and i cant restart it) where i cant restart or shutdown by using the buttons on the PC's case. I have to use the PSU switch to turn it off at the back on again which is not the way it should be.

Anyway ive no idea whats wrong the PC Temps seem fine, hard drives seem ok i ran chkdsk under recovery mode. im at a losee to find out whats wrong and i normally know what the hell is.

At this point my PC is now on for 20 mins as so far so good all data is there and no system errors, nothing in the logs or event viewer. it thought it was a virus but i doubt it. The PC is no unstable it crashed in the BIOS while i was changing a setting so its not a windows problem.

Any ideas? How to diagnose the problem. At the moment all signs point to my PSU being faulty as i cant turn on the PC the normal way i havnt tried a shutdown yet. Perphaps its s a RAM/Motherboard fault? I think its my PSU.

Aplogies for the spelling errors had to type this very fast.

What were you changing in BIOS?

    i cant remember sorry.

    A bit more info;

Yesterday evening my PC turned its self off, i dont know how or why. At forst i thought a virus or Hard drive failure but it seems its not either. this coinsided with my net connection cutting of at the same time.

now i cannot turn the PC on with the case power switch and have to use the switch on the PSU which is not good.

When i shutdown windows it doesnt turn the PSU off it shuts down as windows normally would but the PSU remains on with fans spinning and again i have to use PSU switch to turn it off. Also the PC wouldnt stay on for very long a while a ago it would just sorta go into a black screen mode with the PSU still on this seems to be ok now after i tweeked about with settings here and there in the BIOS.

At this point it seems a PSU or motherboard fault can you help?

Looks like you may have changed some power setting in the BIOS. Otherwise a hardware fault.

Moving. If you can't power on it's probably not windows

Into the BIOS and reset to defaults / setup
If you have added any hardware recently remove it.
If by all 3 drives you mean three physical HDD's then one option is to remove two to reduce the load on the PSU as a diag step.

I wouldn't go mad running chkdsk or system restore unless you have ruled out hardware problems in case it powers off in the middle.

It sounds like something my computer is experiencing. I dont have that much computer hardware to try and fix it myself so it's just gathering dust at the moment :(
