The creator of Dungeons & Dragons and basically the father of the role-playing genre, died earlier today[edit: yesterday].

I for one owe this dude a depth of gratitude - I couldn't begin to imagine how many hours of my life have been spent playing games he developed or inspired. RIP.

I heard this today, a friend of mine had a moment of silence in the WoD campaign he's running. Tragic loss to the world of gaming, may his spirit pass to the appropriate afterlife for his alignment.

RIP. Pity he can't just role another character. Thanks Gary, for all my mis-spent youth killing goblins and elves.

When I realise howmuch of my life is Gary Gygax's fault, it's quite humbling. Rest in peace big guy.

    critical saving throw: fail.

Very sad to hear it, I spent many an enjoyable evening playing AD&D.

I played tomb of horrors as one of the first games when I hit college.
Before that I had read a lot of his books.
For me a world with out D&D and rpg would be a world with out flowers or bread.

I think John Kovalic expressed it best

    Rest in piece man.

Seriously, there should be a pewter statue erected to this man!

Pewter? Pah! A dimensionally anchored collossal replica of pure adamantine I say!

What Fozzle said. RPGs are such a huge part of my life at this point, and it's because of that man. He set the ball rolling for so very very much. Thanks Gary.

    RIP

My userid is the name of my character in a campaign that ran through my teens. Between him and Joe Dever, they have a lot to answer for! He will be missed.

I think my username speaks for itself..... (though it was sometimes spelled lloth...).

anyway, after starting with the basic box and moving onwards through 25 years I have to say I definitely learned a huge amount, gained many and varied interests and nuggets of useless information (glaive guisarme anyone?), had the honour of having mr gygax comment very favourably on an online article I wrote about polearms and made great friends and got to use, develope and excercise an active imagination all thanks to this man in particular. Good gaming times aside, I have to say a huge thanks and RIP.
