Just finished watching the first series.

Dunno if this has been asked/answered before but... why do they always talk about Euros when referring to money. Ok it's not officially set in England but everybody in it is English.

Oh it is supposed to be in England...

I think the Euro thing is just to make it seem a bit quirky or to suggest it takes place at some point in the future.

They slip up once or twice and say pound though.

They usually refer to Euros, the sole exception (that I can think of) is in The Crack Fox where the homeless dude asked for Sterling.

    Always wondered about this myself

But then again, does it need to make sense

it's one question im disappointed to have never seen in interviews. and yep, the moon and the homeless scottish cloak guy both fail to mention euros when talking about currency. which leads to another question... do they purposely put the 's' at the end?*

    *originally monkeyfudge's question

Euros is the correct way to pronounce it. The Irish government decided to make the plural version Euro and then changed their minds.

Edit: It appears I'm wrong http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linguistic_issues_concerning_the_euro

I always presumed that Noel and Julian used euros in the tv series to give it a timeless quality in order for it not to seem dated, if and when the uk join the euro. They say pounds in the same sketchs when theyre doing the live show.

Both are acceptable at this stage.

I used to say pound instead of pounds as well, so euro comes more naturally to me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,216 ✭✭✭✭monkeyfudge

I say dollar instead of dollars as I like sounding like a Vietnamese prostitute.

I don't like these kinds of questions because they require answers that are just going to take away from the magic of the series

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,196 ✭✭✭Crumble Froo

telling you that the moon and scottish-bum-cloak guy didnt use euros has ruined this show for you, hasnt it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,944 ✭✭✭Jay P

Yes. I've only witnessed the magic of the first season so far, but knowing that they probably aren't in a paralel universe means it's just not there anymore :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,196 ✭✭✭Crumble Froo

what? they're in a parallel universe! who ever insinuated otherwise. howard and vince have crossed over once or twice after messing around in naboo's storage room a few times, which is how they managed to bring us in on the journey in the first place, but c'mon! they live in a universe where they get to keep gary numan as a pet.

I have to be honest, I think that asking why most of the references to currency use Euros rather than pounds is akin to asking what exactly was supposed to have happened between Red Dwarf seasons 2 & 3 (which I'll admit I asked in the Red Dwarf forum). It's just one of those quirky little things, dwell on it too much and you'll start to lose the charm of the show, I suspect...

My point exactly (in different words)

I am very sorry I queried why they refer to Euros when talking about money. I did not realise the devistation it would cause. It was never my intention to make people question the wonder of the world of the mighty boosh.

It will never happen again. Sorry

no! keep posting and asking questions! i love it, and anything that keeps the board as active as we can is for the better. if people are too sensitive, we can put up warnings or spoiler tags or something. like...
that's not actually the moon. it's just noel in fancy dress

    It's shaving cream!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,196 ✭✭✭Crumble Froo

he did all the takes for the second series moon bits in one looong take, and the shaving cream seriously irritated his skin... what i want to know is... did he do the same thing for series three?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,123 ✭✭✭✭Star Lord

For the next season, he'll use
pastry cream, which will be later lapped from his face by Rich Fulcher, who will be (probably) be dancing and singing:
    Cream
    Get on top
    Cream
    U will cop
    Cream
    Don't u stop
    Cream
    Sh-boogie bop

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,196 ✭✭✭Crumble Froo

did you make that up, or is that from the documentary?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,123 ✭✭✭✭Star Lord

    -_-

    *turns my back on you*

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,196 ✭✭✭Crumble Froo

oh ****... is that from the boosh out takes bit... hwere fossil/fulcher is dressed as a cake? im almost positive it's not from the normal section of series, though im not hugely familiar with season three crimps yet...

    dammit, i feel so ashamed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,123 ✭✭✭✭Star Lord
