NTL/Magnet/Other ?

    Hi guys,

Hopefully one of you can help me with this question.

My current setup is NTL 2 x digital boxes (one upstairs/one down and an analogue spur running to the kitchen. The cost for this is approx €32 for the first connection, then an additional €5 for the second one per month. I also have BT 2mb for broadband & calls at a cost of about €110 every two months.

So total of €184 every two months (billing cycle).

I was looking at getting a DVR from NTL for an additional €5 per month. but I've been looking at the magnet site & sky site today & I think I could get a better deal with magnet (although without a dvr), or possibly pay a little more and go for sky+ & keep BT for broadband. I'd like to hold onto the analogue spur if possible, but it's not essential.

What do you think is the best arrangement (I've just ordered a DVD recorder with HDD which will be integrated into whatever I decide to do)

You won't be able to get Magnet TV/Broadband unless you are in a Magnet FTTH development which I'd say you're not if you have NTL.

Magnet stopped doing residential TV/Broadband over DSL back some time last year.

So that leaves SKY+, NTL or FTA Satellite for your TV.

Get NTL BB (€40 per month for 12MB connection) or cheaper for slower speeds.

Depends on your call requirements, you could either use a mobile, or get blueface for €10 a month with 300 minutes national calls.

I'm hanging on for NTL.. I don't really use the phone. Wife does for calling her mother (insert rolleyes smilie). But if we could get NTL, I'd have the landline whipped out in a minute. Thanks for the info on magnet pizzahead

You know that you can get phone from NTL now also, here is a particularly good deal they have:

    - 12mb BB
    - Digital TV (select package, not max)
    - DVR
    - Unlimited Local and national calls
    - and you get to keep your analogue connection

    all for €85 pre month

add the extra box for €5

Works out at €180 every two months, which is less then you currently pay while giving you a lot more.

And if I could get it in my area I'd be first in the queue. My dad has NTL BB (2 miles away) & it's fantastic.

Sorry I didn't realise it wasn't available in your area, worth calling them and double checking, they are always upgrading areas.

It isn't on their site yet, but from March 1st new customers will be getting double the speed advertised on this page:
    http://www.upc.ie/internet/

So if you order Broadband Ultra at 6mb, you will actually get 12mb and if you order Broadband Express at 3mb you will actually get 6mb.

For existing customers, they will be gradually upgraded to the higher speeds over April and May from what I hear.

A colleague at work got the 12mb €85 bundle I mentioned above yesterday.

Man I wish they were in my area. I'm surrounded by places that have it. :(
