Has anyone ever managed to get a refund out of Ryanair for the taxes on unused flights? Is it a messy procedure? Or should I not bother?

I looked into this recently and most airlines seem to only accept a request in writing. They then charge an administration fee between 25 to 35 euro per person which practically cancels out the taxes on short flights that you are trying to get back. Therefore its probably not worth your while. The law states that the customer is entitled to the refund as the airlines only pay taxes for the number of passengers that actually board the plane but the law also states that the company can charge a reasonable administration fee. Whether or not the fee is reasonable is open for debate but i cant see anyone taking ryanair to court of a €30 admin fee.

Yeah unless your booking is on a high tax route, something like Luton - Marrakesh maybe, and you want to do it purely out of principle then there's no real point bothering.
