i recently got a acer laptop whas a present which came wit vista already installed on it , problem is tho , that there is only 512 ram which i know is ridiculous , im aware that the very least 1gb of ram would be needed 2 run vista sufficiently !!! my question is , would it be possible for me to buy some more ram , maybe online , and then would it be safe for me to maybe install this myself or maybe wit the help of a professional ????? excuse me if i have posted this in the wrong section as i am fairly new to this site !!!!

    cheer's !!!!!!!!

RAM is fairly easy to install yourself in most laptops, although you may want to get someone to assist if its your first time as the connections can be a little delicate.

There are different types of RAM though, you need to do some homework (net-work) and find the correct type of ram for your lap top.

BTW, Vista on 512? Who sold you that?!

http://www.crucial.com/eu/vista/index.aspx and run the scan in IE. This will tell you what type of memory you need.

    Handy link. Bookmarked :)

TBH you shouldnt mix anti virus software, they tend not to get on well. Some are known to recognise each other as malware.

I use AVG, and have never had an issue with it.

it is tellin me it is a " grapevine " motherboard , which im pretty sure is a piece os s**t !! would this mean i need some grapevine made ram ?? im startin 2 think a whole new laptop wud be better

The RAM and motherboard are fairly independent. You can buy whatever manufacturer of RAM you like as long as it is the standard the motherboard accepts.

Just another point, could you lose the text speak and tone down the exclamation marks. It makes your posts painful to read.

Why don't you just toddle back to the fitness forum and do a few push-ups to get whatever frustrations you have out? And have a smoothie while you are at it.

AVG is what I use, as do a lot of people. But as was said above, don't use two pieces of anti-virus software at the one time, they will grind your system to a halt.

There is a forum over here dedicated specifically to anti-virus and spyware software, with plenty of links to software.

cpuz is a handy little utility to tell you about the ram you have.
it will tell you the number of free slots and what specification it has so you can match

Yea use CPUZ to find out your spec of ram and how many slots are used/free. I wouldnt reccomend AVG antivirus as it uses way too much ram/cpu. Avast antivirus, which is free is in my opinion the best and ive used many. Spybot search and destroy is also prob the best for spyware.

PS; ive some laptop ram lyin around here that id give you for a good price:)
