Return an item on ebay

Hi I purchased an item on ebay and it was faulty. The seller has agreed to give me a full refund once I ship the item back. I asked for my return shipping fees to be paid too and he has said he would but I was to use the cheapest means. I have checked an post site and standard shipping comes in at €3.50 and registered about €7.85.

If I use the standard do I have any proof that I sent it back. I know I wont get a tracking number and most likely nobody will have to sign for it. So it could end up as his word against mine. Would I be better off sending it as registered post just to cover myself? Also is he supposed to cover my return shipping fees as the item did not work for the time it arrived and had pieces missing from it or is he just doing it out of the goodness of his heart .

Don't send it back without a tracking number!! Explain to the seller the two costs recorded/unrecorded and ask him to pay the lower then you pay the difference yourself so you are covered.

At the end of the day the seller does not have to pay for your return shipping so him doing so is a courtesy. But definitely use recorded delivery that can be tracked online so you have proof the item was returned. Without this you are not guaranteed a refund..at least through PayPal.

Thanks for the reply. Never thought of adding the extra to the standard post ... good idea. I will do that. Do you happen to know if I get a refund can I still leave feedback for the item?

Yeah absolutely, I take it you paid by PayPal? You can file a not as described claim on PayPal in order to start the return process.. even once you have been refunded then you can still leave neutral/negative feedback if you want.
