I went for an interview for a job about 3 weeks ago, I was called for a medical the following week and 2 references.A week went by and I heard nothing from the HR representative in the company so I email her.She replied stating she would get back to me that evening or the following day with some feedback.Another week went by and I still had no contact. So I decided to email her again today. So today at around 5.55pm I got another email from her saying that they wouldnt be going ahead with this as they had found a stronger canditate.I have to say I find this very strange indeed.I am asuming the medical and refs check out .Should the recruitment process be over before a canditate is called for a medical and asked for references. Also I had to chase them down for feed back I would probably be still in the dark if I didnt email them. I find this very diaspointing and soul distroying and very unprofessional on the companys part.I am have thinking of writing to the HR manager and letting them know of my disapointment and disgust at being treated like this.Is there anying I can do?

Some people, and companies just aren't worth you wasting your time being offended by.
Of course, it's easy for me to say that, I'm not the one being treated with disrespect.
Just try not to take their unprofessional behavior personally.
They're just doing their job,.. badly.

Meh, I've learned to expect absolutely anything when it comes to recruitment. OP, move on. They don't give a sh1t about you so don't waste your time and energy fretting over them. Of course it's an absolute disgrace how unprofessionally they've treated you, but when nothing's been signed, they have the upper hand all the way. Fickle assholes yes, no question about it, but there's nothing more you can do so just put it down to experience. It's remarkable that so-called professional organisations can be so unprofessional but they simply can be so don't take it personally. Seriously not worth it.

Although maybe no harm in writing to the HR manager all right (once you're 100% sure you won't want to apply there again).

Might not be your fault. They may have lost funding for that particular position. It happens.

    What was the company?

Ireland is a small country, and some industries very small. Just because you won't work there doesn't mean that a snotty letter won't come back to bite you in the ass.

If the HR person doesn't realise that the company was out of order, then they are not worth dealing with. If they do know they were out of order, and still went ahead - then they are definitely not worth dealing with.

No harm to ask for feedback after any interview you dont get. As long as your nice about it, it is actually a benefit the next time you apply as you look interested and look like your trying to improve.

Okay just to clarify were you given a letter of offer of employment from the co. in question after you attended medical and reference checks. I take it they asked permission to contact your referees on CV??

If you did not it means there was an issue with you refs, they are in their right not to make an offer of employment in that case. But you may not be able to prove this as most refs now are over the telephone.

The HR manager may or may not give you feedback, I would be careful about writing a letter to the HR manager as Ireland is a small place.

Best of luck in your job hunting and do not let this deter you

I'm sure you'll get the generic "I wish you all the best in your future career" sh1te in a letter or email at some point. Yep, sure they do...

Try no to let it get to you. Just think, would you really want to work for a company that treats people like this?

Something similar happened to me recently. Its not nice. Especially when 'Professional' HR People ignore you're emails etc. I have learned over the years that HR people are scum. Horrible horrible two faced liars the lot of them!

Feedback yes, not a snotty letter - which is what I inferred from "(once you're 100% sure you won't want to apply there again)."

Sorry to hear about that OP. It's not the nicest way to be treated. You should have had a rejection email/call. I always call candidates if they haven't got a job. The call is basically: They were impressed with a and b but because of x and y we won't be proceeding with your application. I hate doing it, it's the worst part of my job but in my experience people do want to hear it. Even if I'm regretting them straight after they sent their CV in for a position I try to give some constructive feedback to let them know they are applying for the wrong jobs i.e. the role asked for 10 years experience with x, as you have only 2 years experience we will not be proceeding with your application.

Sometimes people do fall through the crack but sending an email and not getting a reply is bad. It's sometimes out of HR's control (i.e. hiring managers not coming back with a decision or official feedback) but if this is the case I let candidates know why they are waiting.

If I were you I'd ring/write and email but not in a snotty way, just asking for soem constructive feedback as to why you didn't get the role. It's the least you can do. As for getting narky with them, I really wouldn't. You never know what company recruitment/HR people will move to next. Ireland is a small place. I've had people apply to me in this and my last job. They were all easy to deal with but I would have remembered if one was nasty/snotty very easily too.

I just called the hr person this morning and she said that there was a large pool of candidates and they chose a stronger one than me.I said I found this highly irregular after going for a medical and submitting 2 refs and went on to ask if there was an issue with either. She said there wasnt. Its stinks to me

I'm sure that is disappointing but there's not really much you can do. If they had another candidate who they feel will fit the role better then that's the way it is.

It's a bit shít after you went for your medical and gave refs to not get the job but I guess the only you can do is keep up the search.

    Best of luck! :)

In my experience that is quite normal behavior from HR. Don't get too disheartened though, hopefully you will have better luck next time.

Looks to me like you p***ed her off with your frequent e-mails. Anybody who appears too anxious to get something sets alarm bells ringing. Next time don't be so pushy.
