    Hi,

Planning around the world trip looking like New York - ???S.America ???? -LA- San Fran - Hawaii - New Zealand - Melbourne - Sydney - Cairns for 6months to work then Thailand and home.

Now any advise on what parts of S.America to hit on the way?
    Is it safe enough?
Should we goto any other parts of Aisa as part of the trip?
We might replace newYork with Cancun as a start into the south.

Heard Abbey travel also do good around the world tickets Austravel anyone use these?

    ta
    Paul

For a start your route doesn't seem right for a RTW ticket. You only have a certain amount of miles to work with. Think it is 33,000 and it looks like you will exceed that by going down to South America and back up to the US. I also don't remember seeing the option of going from the US to South America or vice versa as part of a RTW ticket. But i could be wrong on that.

You also seem to be taking in a fair whack of expensive places. New York, LA, San Fran and Hawaii are all expensive. But if you are not on a tight budget you'll be grand. And if you are including South America you should really consider how much time you will spend there. It is a huge continent and if you only plan a month or two, don't try to be too ambitious and see loads of places. What looks like a short distance on a map is far from it due to the mountainous regions and laid back attitude that causes buses and planes to rarely run on time.

Places i'd recommend in SA are Peru and Bolivia. But if you are just spending a short time i'd probably recommend Brazil and Argentina. Especially for socializing. Rio and Buenos Aires have great nightlife. And also don't worry about safety too much. Just use common sense and get taxi's everywhere at night. Even the locals won't walk a few blocks home. If something looks dodgy don't take the risk and if an area looks bad don't go near it. Don't carry much money on you or wear expensive looking clothes or jewellery or walk with cameras around your neck. That is just an invitation and always watch you bag. Some thiefs in that region are nothing short of genius in their artform.

Also Cancun is grand for the nightlife but it is not look the rest of Mexico. It is a really Americanized dump pretty much. Although Isla Mujeres is a really cool place near it.

I don't know about Abbey Travel but Trailfinders and USIT are the most popular RTW agents.

If you've any more questions just ask.

I'd recommend going into Trailfinders on Dawson St. to have a chat with one of their advisors. They've all got experience of travelling and can give you first hand advice on where to go and where to spend time etc.

Cool thanks for the advise, we may indeed skip New York as its only a hop away anytime. And

Anyone heard of the One world alliance 4 continent tickets – there’s no restriction on the number of miles you can do on this ticket.
    All intercontinental flights
5 flights in Europe, Asia, Pacific (OZ and NZ)
6 flights in North America and Canada
    ^
Info i got from a friend, bought via Abbey Travel...

Yea off to the travel agents with me to see what they can offer.

    Thanks!

Trailfinders were great for advise and variety, USIT can only offer a RTW trip based on miles were TF do it by No of flights.
    so Brazil, Peru, Mexico(Baja penn) 1Month - California Vegas etc 1month - Hawaii 1week - NZ 1month - OZ(6 months) - Thailand 1month

Thats 10 months so we have 1 month to spare any advise on were to head in aisa?

We plan to work in OZ for a few months anyway is there much work in IT?

go to Nepal if you time spare in Asia. It's amazing. The Baja sur y norte ain't all that great. You should try further inland and take in Copper canyon if you are going to be in northen Mexico.

Also Trailfinders do base on miles. It's 30 thousand with 3 thousand miles extra to pay for or something like that.

i got my rtw ticket from these guys,

    http://www.flightcentre.co.uk/flights/roundtheworld

uk company, was about 300 less than trailfinders for the same ticket.

plus, would be less now with the euro being so strong.

The ticket is a one world alliance ticket think its a max of 20 flights.

Whats the Baja California peninsula like? What do you mean is not that great?

    Thanks ill mail that company.

Which bus company did ppl us in NZ?
Ive heard of Newmans Stray and Magicbus
but ive heard the magic bus is banned from some areas.

The places i been to didn't really appeal to me much. Had nothing to offer really compared to the rest of Mexico. Tijuana, Rosarita, Ensenada, La Paz and Cabo are all Americanized type towns. Baja Norte is pretty barren. Something about most of the penisula put me off it. Probably tainted by my weekly border hopping while i lived in San Diego.
