turn on and off projector

    Hi,

I have a projector controlled by a laptop, running a powerpoint: I want the projector to project for a couple of hours, and then turn off automatically, and then turn back on, and so on.

I can't find a way to script Fn-F8 to turn on/off the external display of the laptop (it's a bios function, so you can't get at it from Windows).

Scripting a macro to go into display options (a) is messy, and (b) rearranges windows (projector and laptop have different resolutions)

If you turn off the projector at the power with a timer switch, it won't automatically turn back on (many power switches are soft switches now)

    Anybody got any suggestions?

Depends on your budget I guess! Anything is possible!
You could use a learning remote control that has macro functions and have them timed to switch on and off the projector.
It could also raise and lower your screen if it is motorised?

    Not gonna be cheap though!

    Hi,

Projector control is normally achieved through RS232 if this facility is available on your projector. Most of todays commerical projectors have this type of control. Some NEC models have built in ON/OFF Timers. Very hands for commerical installations.
