SkyHD, Sky+, and Multiroom

    Hi everyone,

I originally had just Sky. Then I upgraded to Sky+ and multiroom, using the original box in another room.

I then purchased a HD box from ebay, and used it to replace the Sky+ box in the main room. I then swaped out the original Sky box with the Sky+ box in the other room, still keeping multiroom. Retired the old box to the attic !

So, currently I am paying my subscription, plus multiroom, plus HD.

My question concerns my Sky+ box.

Currently I only have one cable feeding that box. I am able to take advantage of the recording functionality but only on the channel I am watching. If I was to add the 2nd cable feed to the dish, could I then activate normal Sky+ functionality (watch one channel, record another), or would this be an additional subscription cost ?

What do you think ?

no sky + no longer costs when you subscribe to a package

Do you mean a standard package or a movie or sport package ?

    Hi all,

    First post - be kind!

I have SkyHD and was thinking about going multiroom. My problem is that our bedroom couldn't be any further away from the dish and I'd hate to start drilling through 3+ rooms.

Our houses are quite new and are pre wired for ntl. I've heard rumours that Sky installers can route wires from the dish into the ntl box and then throughout the house using the existing ntl wiring? Does this sound correct to you guys?? We have an ntl box beside where the Sky wiring comes into the house and another one in a back bedroom, however in our room we dont have an ntl box on the wall just a 'tv point' - sorry I don't know its correct name. Do you think the installer could utilise this point to get Sky+ multiroom in the bedroom without using heavy tools??

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Problem is you need two cables to utilise sky + fully unless you use a device called a stacker/destacker which the sky installer will most likely have never heard of. If the cable goes directly to the bedroom and is good quality this can be used for standard sky box. Plan for some phone wiring too as multi room requires that both boxes are connected to the same phoneline.

Hi Tony - thanks for the quick response. We have a phone point in the room so I'm not too worried about that aspect just yet. Is a stacker thingie something I could get myself (single wire into stacker into Sky+ box type set up?) Or are they hideously expensive and complicated?

Pretty simple, the have come down in price quite a bit but still expensive. I have sold one to a guy that posts on here who was in a similar situation to yourself so perhaps he might see this and give his thoughts. I do not have them on my site yet as I wanted to see what my customer thought of the unit first. I'm sure a google would throw up some images for you.

    http://www.ekmpowershop2.com/ekmps/shops/melksatltd/stacker--destacker-90-p.asp

    there for example.

Have used these products before and tbh they work but are very expensive.

    £109 upto 30m and then £128 upto 60m.

BUT the cable has to be good quality.

    Hope this helps ;)

Yes my customer did say that he had to change out a cable to better quality to get it to work.

    Cheers lads - appreciate it.

Tony I'll see if he can use the wiring and be in touch.
