    Hi all,

I'm finishing 6th year soon and I'm hoping to get a job for a year before I go to University.

So I want to know is: where can an 18 year old guy make some decent cash, with nothing more than a Leaving Cert qualification?

And, what jobs should I stay away from?

I'm up for any suggestions. Have you found the perfect job? let me know...

    Thanks :D

Anything that envolves working for the goverment. Become a Clerical Officer http://www.askaboutmoney.com/showthread.php?t=14567
money is prity good and it is great for the CV after you finish college. You might even be able to get a summer job every summer in it while your in college. As these jobs are very flexible. Also an executive officer role pays a lot of money.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I'll look into all these options.

I just wonder, would an 18 year old with not much work experience be able to get a job in a bank, or with the government? Sounds good though.

Keep posting if anyone can think of anything else.

    Cheers for now! ;)

Clerical Officer is def possible, try to apply before students are finished for their summer. As they will be your competition. I had a friend when I was in college who had a job in a band counting money while doing the leaving cert and it paid very well. Sole destroying though at least as a Clerical Officer you will get to talk to people and the public sector is fairly relaxed in general when compared to jobs in the comercial sector. Everyone has to start somewhere I had a class job in the local hospital cutting lawns all day for the summer. I was on 400 euro and this was 6 years ago, class money at the time and easy work. Not great for the CV but I didnt care I was loaded :P Good luck and all the best

Look up jobs for the Dublin Airport Authority.

Good way to start off in the working world.

All you need is a LC, good work ethic, a good reference, and do a decent interview!

i did what you're thinking of.
i spent some time in the bank- great money, but i hated it.
i then spent a year doing the low paid, low level retail thing.
now, in my second year out of school, im assistant store manager for a great store, and the money is brill.
but dont let yourself get carried away with money and how much you'll be earning- cos it'll be hard when u go to college and your cashflow has suddenly stopped!
i definitely recommend a retail job. the money won't be great at first, but if you're living at home you won't have rent, bills etc. also, when it comes to you going to college next year you can stay part time, which won't be possible in an office job. plus, with any decent fashion retailer there's a 40%-50% discount- some even give 75%!! which i bet you'd prefer over any benefit you'll get at a bank or office.

    :)
