    I could think of much better ways to spend €20k.

    First off, Dell memory is a rip-off.

    My dream machine at present would be:

    * Intel x4 (or x8) core CPU.
    * Fastest bus available.
    * About 32-64 GB memory
    * x4 nVidia GPUs (I can't wait for the geforce10 with XDR 4.8GHz+ memory)
    * x1 Xilinx Virtex 5 PCI express FPGA card
    * Intel C++ compiler
    * Xilinx ISE

    You'd get the above for about €20k.

    That's nothing top of the range Mac (8 cores), 64GB memory and 4TB of diskspace and all the other extras = $22,000

    FB-Dimms are about €500 for a 4GB stick and €10000 for an 8GB stick presently, so quickly add to the cost :)
