ok so,........reasons why its great not to be a dub!

    1. you actually feel "irish" not just a city troglodyte from anywhere in europe.

    2. you actually know your way round dublin.

    3. you know the best pubs, clubs parties in dublin.

    4. you have the best jobs in dublin

    5. its great to know your neighbours

    6. going to dublin for a day out when you were a kid

    7. going to dublin on a school tour

    8. knowing where all the provinces are located

    9. knowing how many counties are in ulster

    10. knowing the difference between the 6 and 9 counties of ulster

11 not having to see lassies wearing pyjamas in town during the day

12 being able to recognise/differentiate a county accent

13 i could go on and on and ...you get the drift!!

    bring it on!!

    - You're not offended when people call you names like bogger, mulla, sheep shagger, inbred, culchies....

    - Life is simple; crisps are Taytos, Tv is Rte, cars are Masseys, the internet is soon to arrive, and every culchie and his cousin do be shiftin in the one club that the town has.

    - So that when you come to Dublin, dubs can easily distinguish you common folk by the sheer look of amazement on your faces at what the real world looks like (aka the Big Smoke in bogland terms)

*. up until moving out from "the small choke" last year, revelling in a twice weekly column in the letters in "the metro" slagging off dubs and signing it off "cavan culchie" and slagging the dubs twice a week when it was printed.

*. being able to have the balls in a works crew full of dubs and take them on in the auld slagging, ten to one, take a few hits but still be the winner outright.

*. being able to give directions to dubs in their own town (or did i already say that?)?

It's 4:44 in the am, surely there's something more entertaining to discuss than helping to feed the misguided delusions of a sad little man. Dublin may be a sh*t hole, but then again so is the vast majority of towns and cities in this country.

this whole thing was meant to be a bit of friendly banter, i was hoping somebody was going to start a thread" reasons why its great to be a dub" etc etc,,,

it was kind of an attempt to take the heat off the "why ireland is ****e" thingy thread" hope ye understand.

    ye thick ****in jackeen west-brits!

Due to its proximity and long historical ties to Britain, Irish people outside of the Pale thought that Dubliners wanted to be English. John Bull became Jack Bull and, using the Irish suffix -ín meaning small, Jack became Jackeen. Therefore, Jackeen literally means Little Jack or "minibrit".

From Union Jack ... small versions of these were on sale in Dublin at the time of one of the royal visits, and those who stood out and waved them were dismissed contemptuously as "jackeens" (by country people and other Dubs alike! ;) )

Ah, but that's what you get for bringing sheep into the city, they pick up bad habits. Country sheep know to stand still and assume the position or the sheepdog will be nipping at their heels ...
