I know it's a stupid question, but still need some advise from all of you.
I got a job offer after my second interview subject to a wrok reference check and medical check.everybody in the new company from manager to the director are happy about me,they offer a quite high salary and asked me to start asap.

But the last company which i worked for who fired me bcoz of bad time keeping.i still show them up on my CV and told them some other reasons that why i want to leave that company,
    so i am wondering

1,The HR asked me to give a contact person who is in my last job,can I give some one's mobile number, who is still working for that company as a reference?bocz i'am pretty sure that my boss won't be give me any kind of good reference.

2,Even in the case if the HR got a bad reference,is that means i got no chance at all to get the job?bocz it's kind of skilled job,and there's not many people could sucessful pass the interview.

thanks a lot for all of your help!!!!

Giving a mobile would look very bad IMO.
If I were doing a reference check on you i'd look for the name of the person only, and i'd call the company directly to speak to them, so I could be sure they are who you say they are.

But the HR in the new company asked me to give a contact name and a their by myself,is that means i could give anyone's number who knows me in that company or i have to give a number for the HR or the owner of their company?

If you got fired for bad time keeping then your new boss will soon discover this when he rings your old company for a reference and then he will decided if you get the job after or not. You only have yourself to blame if you dont get this job or the next.

    Not true.

They're allowed say whatever they want, but it has to be correct.

If you showed up late every day and were fired because of this, they can say that.

OP: You should have had some kind of tactic to not have to give your old company as a reference. What you could do is e-mail on a reference from a another employer, claim the previous manager (the one who fired you) is on holidays, but you will get his contact information when he returns. Most likely the lazy HR person (who probably won't even check your references) will have gotten bored by then and you'll already have started the job.

I got sacked for crashing my company car while over the limit. Had to give up the drink and totally re invent myself. Went to stubbs gazette and found a company that had gone bust, but website was still up. copied the logo, made my own stationary, wrote a glowing reference, had to give a mobile number(Of a Friend) cos company was gone bust.

Got the job, have since moved up the ranks, but am thinking of a complete career change. I gave up the demon drink, you have to improve your timekeeping. I know its not honest, but sometimes, when your back is against the wall, Its do or die ! good luck, and get familiar with photoshop !!;)

thanks for the advise, this seems to be good to me.but by your experience if told the HR the guy in my old company is on holiday, will the HR ask me to provide someone eles as an alternative? I have to give the contact details soon, I really really got a big headache on this.

what if I tell the HR people that my old company not allowed me to work for the same kind of company who operate similar kind of business in couple of years time,if I do,will break the law, will this be helped?

any advise will be greatly help.thanks in advance

Ok, first of all in my experince HR are usually lazy and incompetant. Apoligies to all HR people on boards, I'm not the first to say it.
You're talking about an exclusion clause. Any decent solicitor can get around them using some EU right to employment. Sorry, I've long forgotten the exact legislation. My advice is don't tell HR anything and they won't ask.

A good example of this is Nick Lesson will never work for a bank again but he still has a good career for himself as CEO of Galway Utd and fair play to him! So why can't you?

However being fired for bad timekeeping is kinda inexcusable. Try to use a reference from before your last job.

MarinoMark, seriously you crashed the company car over the limit, lol :D
I like your style too! (your recovery that is)

A company cannot legally prevent you from taking another job. My old job used to have this in our contracts and when 1 guy moved he took legal advice and was told there was no way they could stop him taking a job with a competitor.

Do you know someone who worked in the company until the last few months who you could give as a reference ?

Otherwise, maybe tell the HR person in the new job that you left the company after a big argument with your boss (this might explain them giving a bad reference).

From what I understood, companies don't like to say bad things in references, but they can leave out things....i.e by not saying your time keeping was good, another HR person would read this to mean that your time keeping was bad !

Yes, I do drive a taxi part time, I also work during the day in the ifsc. You my friend have an opinion on everything, which, in your tunnell visioned world, is correct. I have looked up your previous posts on boards which proves my point. Without getting personal, you are the curtain twitcher which every neighberhood has. M

I have good references and I never thought to give the company phone number rather than the mobile number. I will have to do this from now on though.
