VOIP Again?

I picked up a second box today and I was trying to set it up from the New Install menu. I noticed that when it tries its callback all it seems to be dialling is the number 14. I can see this in the Blueface (VOIP) call log. I know there are problems with SKy and VOIP but I would have thought it should at least try to dial a number. Does anyone know the callback number it should dial and can it be changed, is it possible to put a suffix to the Sky box dialler?

the number it should ring is '1800409232'. You can actaually set it on the box, can't remember where though.

I tried to get Sky + and Multiroom working with VOIP (Blueface) without any sucess, I set all the right codes, QOS etc and no luck.

I rang SKY about it and said they do not support VOIP, I asked when they might be able to support it and she said they had barley got callbacks working with analog phones.

you need G.711 and uLaw or ALaw depending on which Bluface gateway does.

Use the "send Sky an Email" feature to test.

    Watty,
I'm sure you've been through this loads of times but have you ever managed to get Sky calling back via VOIP. I am sure Blueface support both the codecs you mention and my ATA can do it also. The problem is the QOS, as although my device supports it, I can't guarantee that upstream devices do.

I have two questions if you don't mind!

    1) Where is the "send sky an email" feature?
    2) Do you know if its possible to change the phone number the box uses for callback? All I can see in the logs is 14.

I have a pretty good VOIP service which averages at about 4.0 on testmyvoip.com to London, so I am hoping it will work for multiroom.

If you are using a cheapo ata unit such as a Linksys one you are at nothing. You need a good quality ata unit which supports protocol t.38.

Um....is that a certainty or a rough guess. The ATA device I have does have a lot of config for FAX passthrough, although there is no mention of T.38 specifically. Am I correct in saying that its still possible that I could fork out for a new ATA and it still mightn't work!?

I reckon it might be the delay it takes to actually dial the number. When I am manually dialing I can add a # after the number and it connects straight away, does anyone know if the Sky box can be configured to send a suffix after the number? That may help it at least dial the correct number!

This is getting strange. After toying with Silence Suppression and switching on/off some feature I can now at least get the Sky box to dial. The strange thing is the number its dialling. I have managed to dial and connect to the Sky interactive service and test an online game (Yes, I am smarter than a 10 year old!) but the number it is dialling is 0121515444002 - note the 012 before the 1515 number. When I force a callback the same thing happens, it dials 0121800409232 and can't connect.

Anyone know why the box is putting 012 before the number? I have no prefix's configured at all on the box.

    thanks

    T.38 won't work with a Sky box.
It only works if the FAX machine at both ends support T.38 too

T.38 usually won't work for faxes. It's a Fax machine emulator in the ATA/SIP adaptor and Voice gateway and over the internet sends TIFF files via IP. The framing is unusual, which is why the analogue fax machine has to support T.38 mode. It won't work at all for non-fax modem traffic. You need G.711

    Grandstream ATA.

I can't find a link, but I think it tells the line to send caller id information even if you're ex directory.

142 is the the prefix code for displaying an ex-directory no. for caller-id.

The prefix "012" doesn't make sense, "01" is the Dublin area code and the "2" would be would be the first digit of a (south) Dublin phone no.

Callbacks working for me with a Pace TDS470N, Linksys WRTP54G using G711, Blueface, and NTL 1mb. Can also use interactive services such as NHS Direct, Direct.gov etc.

When you check your Blueface account, how long is the callback lasting? Mine don't last more than 31 seconds and always say "Callback Failed".

Maybe you want to try freespeech.ie. After having no success with blueface I did set up an account with freespeech and in 95% the call goes through.

Remeber to make sure that your ATA uses G711 ......

Any other settings for freespeech.ie, QOS etc that we need to know.

I too have had no success with blueface and would love to see something else.

No - nothing special - I use a FritzBox 7270 from AVM. It syncs on G.711u with freespeech without changing any settings. For a first test I would recommend that you stop all internet traffic at your home and see whether the sky-box can make a connection.

A Tip for all FritzBox users:

As you can not edit the codecs within the FritzBox connect the SkyBox to Phone2 and configure that line as fax. The FritzBox will then try T.38 which freespeech does not support and fall back to G.711u.
