    Hi,
I am trying to help some friends organise their wedding. Does anyone know how the costs compare between a reception in a marquee and an hotel reception? They are looking to keep the costs as low as possible.

Im looking at the same thing. Also wondering about getting married in tthe grounds of the place we have the reception. Need to find out about the chance of a registar coming out to perform the service?

They will only do it in an approved building, not a marquee or gardens. And there's a backlog building up in Dublin, Kildare and Wicklow so this year is pretty much booked solid.

I thought the new legislation was going to make organising a wedding easier?
My hubby and I put off our wedding waiting for the changes to be enforced. It was a choice of civil ceremony in the Health Board offices (entering and leaving through the goods loading bay) or a church ceremony. In the end we gave up and had a church wedding in 2005.

I had a look at the GRO website

    http://www.groireland.ie/guidelines_for_venues.htm

Mary Harney's point 9 says - The requirement that the marriage be solemnized in a fixed structure that is open to the public precludes marriages being solemnized in the open air, a tent, marquee or other temporary structure, or a private dwelling.

It would seem that the Gov does not want us getting married without spending a fortune hiring a venue.

    Hi

I am getting married in a marquee for my wedding and my sister is getting married in a hotel next year. There is a huge difference in price. With the hotel you only pay per person for the meal. In the marquee every plate, chair, knife spoon etc has to be rented, all the staff, heaters, loos yada yada yada. It is working out much more expensive than my sisters.
Saying that I would prefer to pay the money cos its more personal.
If your friend is looking for low budget marquee you could leave a lot of the extras like linings, carpets, fancy lights. And maybe have a buffet?
    Anyway, hope this helps
