Can I do the driving test without an NCT?

My driving test is coming up shortly and my NCT just ran out on my car. I only done the NCT back in November or December and trying to organise another one is such a pain.

Is it possible to do the driving test with an out of date NCT cert?

    I'll rephrase it then.

Has anyone done the test without the NCT or know if it is something they check at the time.

    Thanks

My car is over two years old and yes all four testers I had did check it. I have heard the NCT people are quite happy to do it for you if somebody doesn't turn up.

Did the car not pass? It's March now, surely you could have had it sorted by now, or is it another car?

They will not test you if the car is not certified roadworthy.

No NCT, no Test. Fee lost.

I've just been putting it off because it's awkward. I keep having to cancel appointments and they got a little annoyed so I stopped booking it in.

I'm hoping to have it done in 12 days. But I'm not 100% certain I can make that appointment either.

Basically, I'm wondering should I cancel the car test if I can't make the NCT test on time. I guess I'll have to if that's the case.

I had the NCT on Dec 12th according to the old calendar I have. So really I guess I'm not too pushed when it comes to getting another done a few weeks later so I tend to cancel the appointment if something else comes up :) But since I need it for the driving test I'll try not to cancel again :o

Oh and nipplenuts, the car passed without any problems. But for some reason they said I had to come back in February. I wasn't pleased so I left in a huff and didn't ask why I have to go back. It might be that the car is 10 years old now and when I went to get the NCT done, It was the first time it has ever had one.

A friend of mine's NCT cert was 2 days out of date, she thought she had till the end of the month to renew it, and they wouldnt do her driving test..That was in the SGS testing centre

The NCT validity is checked as a standard part of the pre-test routine the driving tester has to perform on the test car. If it's not valid you won't leave the car park. If the instructor doesn't check then they're not doing their job properly.

As for your NCT test itself, the problem you have is that the NCT test you passed last year was for a two year period from Feb 2006 - Feb 2008. The test is due on the anniversary of the car's registration starting on the fourth year and then every two years after that. If you don't get your car tested on time the validity is still only until the official due date of the next test. For example, if my car's NCT is due in March 2008 but I don't bring it in until Sept 2008 the next test will still be due in March 2010.

If the cert in the car window is out of date, then they won't conduct the test. You are told this in the leaflet that accompanies your test letter.

If you can't get the car through the NCT in time, then consider getting your insurance transferred to a friend's car or talk to a driving school about arranging hire for the test.

The DOE test is done every year. You need the cert as no disc is supplied.

nah the instructors do check. I put off my test so I could get my NCT outa the way. With SGS doing tests in the same building as the NCT these days its almost a symboitioc relationship. One supports the other. Like my doctor surgry being over an expensive chemist.

If i was that stuck... I would do really stupid illegal stuff

Even if they don't spot it (which they will) you pass a check point on the test and end up on court on a very serious charge.
