just a bit ago my other brother says only 2 people are allowed visit a time

WTF..?! is this bs or something?

so no point going down if i cant get into the ward../ seems incredible.

a lot of hospitals have this rule actually. but it does vary in how strictly its enforced.

On a personal level, if i have a patient just after a major surgery, then yep, i'd suggest to family and friends that we try to limit the visitors for the first bi pot-op to 2 or 3 at a time.

You also have to recognise that if your mum is in a six bedded ward, with 4 visitors. and every other patient has 4 visitiors too then that makes a lot of noise etc. It also leaves very little room. You might think that it never happens that everyone would have visitors al at once but it does......about 2 weeks ago on a sunday i went on lunch, there was about 5 or6 people visiting in one of the six beds, when i came back an hour later there were nearly 20 including a few young kids, who really should never be brought into hospital unless its really necessary.

That said, i'm sure you'd prob be able to work something out with the ward staff.

Hope your mum gets better soon too! :)

thanks for that, i just rung her up...

she is fine, had an op thursday, my eldest brother and his girl went down, i didnt want to be causing extra hassle and she said it was fine.

but a bit strange, hospital rules have gone crazy since the good old days, you cant even bring in flowers now.

flowers in vases are havens for pseudomonas - a normally ubiquitous organism but can cause severe wound infections and pneumonia. It also has a tendency to become resistant to antibiotics at a drop of a hat and then be very nasty indeed. by cutting down the reservoirs of this bug, you reduce the chance of getting it.

depending on your definition of old days rules have actually relaxed a lot.

Back in the recent past, visiting times were restricted to specific times, no such thing as open visiting at all. Kid visitors weren't allowed through the door. it was certainly limited to 2 visitors at a time, and if say a patient had had a lot of visitors inone day, people were routinely told that the patient needed a rest now......

    glad everythin is cool tho!
