Using it for the past few weeks, seems to be working ok. It doesn't lock up like the other one (2.0.0.12) does for me.

Using it on and off, no problems.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,797 ✭✭✭✭Akrasia

I don't know if i like the new predictive address bar thingy.

It's very intrusive for people that share a computer.

Actually, after using it for a while, it is coming in really handy.

I'm starting to really like it.

That's good to know. Was an annoying problem. Will give V3 a go so.

EDIT: What's the story with addons? I've lost UnPlug with this version.

All in the space of six minutes? Wow!

    Won't load Hotmail for me.

EDIT: Will load the classic version ok, not the full version. This and no addons means back to V2 for me.

I'm liking it. Google toolbar won't work with it though, always found that handy

    Working fine for me too.
Although sometimes on Boards the menus up on top appear behind the banner ads instead of in front of them.

Ya, I am happy with IE7 too. Dunno if i'll change to ff3 at all.

Hotmail full version is not loading after I sign in, but the classic version is OK.

I prefer it to Firefox 2. I'm a bit pissed that they dropped their promised full vista integrated UI though. Default theme looks like arse.

Firefox 3 beta is cool, not noticed any issies bar overlapping text on somes sites (EG Gamespot reviews), new features are nice, prefare the new style password mananger as you can choose to save password while logged in insuring correct password is saved... New predicting website thing is a cool touch aswell, does take a bit of time getting used to! One thing id like is Google toolbar to be made it compatable and be able to put a small search box in top right like you could in version 2 (In this version when you add it its very stretched...

Careful if reverting back to V2, I lost all stored passwords.

im using vista and ie7. cant fault it yet.... espically compared to ie6.
went from ff2 to ie7 so i dont think im gonna try ff3 as im too use to ie7 to change again.

IE8 beta is out if you feel adventurous, there's a thread about it somewhere.

if anyones interested, FF3 beta 4 has been released. Anyone currently on beta 3 should be able to just do an update and get it.

Personally, I use IE7 at home. But in work I use FF. I see no reason to use FF at home.

Meh, I use the nightly builds of ff3 [minefield] in conjunction with ff2 & IE8 beta1 and opera 9.5beta.

Opera had the predicable address bar ages ago...

Installed FF3 beta4 yesterday - I'm very impressed! So much faster & zippier than ff2/IE7.

Mods, apologies if this has been done before but can't seem to find another topic on the same subject.

I've just installed Firefox 3 beta 4 and I must say first impressions are stunning. Boards.ie pages are extremely quick to load, this is presumably thanks to the newly optimised Javascript engine. Memory usage has also supposedly been greatly reduced, a few hours of heavy browsing will put that to the test. Has anyone else tried this out?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 36,634 ✭✭✭✭Ruu_Old

Been using it for a while and agree (not sure if I'm noticing much re: speed of boards). No stalling though, memory usage is reduced. Thumbs up. :)

i agree but as far as i was aware boards doesn't have a lot of javascript running? unless it's all running in the background. thought it was mainly PHP with the forum bar up the top being javascript.

Hmmm.. am gonna give this a shot so.

There may be some optimisations working on the AJAXy Quick Post, Edit and now Thanks functions?

I'm gonna give this a shot as boards has been stalling for me quite a bit. With noscript though it works fine but I hate using noscript.

I could be wrong but I think a lot of javascript is used for some dynamic features like Quick Reply, Go Advanced, clicking on a poster's username, stuff like that. I did a quick check of the source for this page and found around 30 scripts embedded.

Then again its about 6 years since I worked with javascript so I could be inadvertantly talking out of my árse...

It's faster.. but sweet christ, it looks horrific on the Mac.

Like some bastardized, bloated version of Safari!

there's one thing that annoys me about it and it's the drop-down box of recently viewed webpages, it's fecking massively even on my 22inch monitor i'd hate to see it on a laptop.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 495 ✭✭Sajan

I downloaded this version and it seems to have lost a lot of my recent settings that I configured with my old version of firefox as well as lose all my recent bookmarks. I had my bookmarks organised into sections. This is also gone. And the pull down menu gives a list of all the recently viewed sites not just the sites I tped in manually which is a major pain.

Is it possible to revert to my old version?

Yeah, I deleted that. But can't seem to delete the 'Home' button from my Bookmarks Toolbar.

Download your previous (non-beta) version from Mozilla

    How did you delete it?

Right-click (or Ctrl+Click on Mac) on it and then click 'Delete' on the context menu.

Is this the drop down that appears in the address bar with all your favourites in it, that you are talking about? That's the one I'm on about and nothing happens when I right click on it.

Try going to 'about:config' and I set value to 0 in 'browser.urlbar.MaxRichResults'. The restart Firefox.

Just installed, Gotta say i like it & it appears to open boards quicker. Even the theme is nice and not a whole lot away from the abstract classic one i always use. Miss my foxmarks add-on tho. How long will it be before foxmarks supports this?

    Edit, Wahhhhey, both shortcuts work

Cheers, Ruu, it worked a charm. I really like it. My old theme didn't work very well with it so I just switched to the default theme and I actually prefer it to my old theme so that's pretty sweet.

It fixed my problem with javascript as well so that's a win. It doesn't seem to work very well with the cloud skin though. Sometimes the cursor will disappear when on a black background. Still though that's a minor foible.

well it is still in beta, i'd say once they get past the RC stage most add-ons will offer support for FF3. I know a few of mine that wheren't supported have been slowly coming around and offering updates.

EDIT: Also these speed improvements have just made it so hard to use IE7 now. I like the way IE7 handles book marks so I haven't fully made the switch over. Usually I'll work in IE7 and then have FF open for stumbleupon and digg. You can really notice the speed difference in web 2.0 sites compared to IE7. Unless IE8 can redeem explorer i'll be making the full move over to FF on all my machines.
