Grrr I seem to always get compulsive buy urges when drinking!!
The SA-58 disappeared from MIA's website, eirsofts AEG total went from 70 to 69 and I have a battle of my own minds will power to buy a SL8 or wait
until King Arms release their new L1A1 SLR in a few weeks!!!

The real steel version of the SL8 is modified so it cannot accept G36 standard
mags. I have held one and it is magnificent. Pawed the airsoft version
at toys for big boys and was impressed with the finish and weight.

On a very very brief review someone mentioned that
the Airsoft version could take standard G36 mags.

    Can anyone confirm ?

Its on my short list so am planning on buying it from MIA or eirsoft at some stage. May Give MIA some business to be fair as eirsoft seems to get most
of mine. May not matter as I think I heard once that MIA is a supplier to eirsoft.

    4-8 weeks apparently.
I would have saved for a Star but its single fire only,
and I have no idea why a single fire only AEG would need a 9.6V battery!!!

    Copied and pasted from

King Arms: Replica SLR before Easter?
MilGeek sent in an interesting news about announced and than delayed replica of SLR from King Arms:

Hi, more on the King Arms L1A1 'mystery', I got a email back from King Arms who summed up the current situation regarding their long time 'pending' British SLR replica:

"Since Star Released their L1A1. Our engineer finally change their mind and add features. So , the release date is postponed again.

Last nite I talked with them. They said L1A1 is really under massive production period. Hope that the L1A1 will be released before Easter.

    King Arms Sales"

I do wonder what features teh Star version has forced King Arms to change?

I'd love to see what they were myself. Shame we'll never know.

Maybe they've changed the colour of the steel to make it more like the Star one? It does look a lot better in that regard.

Added little thing under the trigger?

Or maybe they've changed it to full auto to get one up on them? :D

Ohh drool I hope so!!! on both features.

P.S. check out the Militeria board one of the guys posted a link
to a USA website that will sell and post FAL parts like stock/grip/handguards.
Handy for making our AEG's more authentic looking. KA ones tend to be
    a little off in texture/colour

Did you see my new hand guards? They look well. Still haven't figured out a pin to attach the top part though.

    Posted some pics here

A new stock should work but you'll obviously have to figure out a way of making a hollowing for the battery.

Grip is a no go as the airsoft one contains some mechanical parts to do with the gearbox.

The flip up L1a1 iron sights are a little small. They just slide out. If you can figure out a way of fixing this, let me know :)

Hanguard looks pretty nice but gotta get the one with 3 air cooling slots
    in order to satisfy myself.

Did the Irish FNs have the three slots? Any L1A1 pics I've seen have two.

Am I right in thinking that some websites have the name mixed up?
    This is a SL8:
    300px-H%26K-SL8.jpg
    And this is a SL9:
    SL9.jpg
    Right?
Some call the SL8 a SL9 though, but they do look very similar.

A lot of people don't like the 8 because of the sight+rail thingie, good to see someone with a bit of taste round here....

I've just bought an SL-8 from MIA, just an hour ago. Lovely stuff, though I'll not charge it up til I get a smart charger later this week. I'll be able to use it all next week, hopefully. It comes with low-profile mags but takes the full-size ones too.

It's remarkably light for the size, a lot lighter than the full-metal M15 variants, and lot 'cleaner' in appearance (the Armalites have a lot of aggressive-looking ribs, corners and switches). Y'all can have a fondle next week, I'm hoping to be there.

That must have been you I was talking to this morning then, I went in for possibly a pistol and left with an ARMY R85 A1, god I love that shop, shame my bank doesn't feel the same way.

I have to say that classic army SL-8 is a wonderful piece of kit, I'll be very interested to see what the King Arms one is like.

Agghh should of bought when I was drunk last night!!! and it was still in stock! It was the only item in MIA's store that I had an interest in! They are out of stock now.

I was in the reserves in 92 they had a mixture of SLR's with wooden stocks
but they did not have wooden handguards they had the 3 slotted black ones.
Similar looking to this but with a different breech block a different fire selector switch
and 3 slots in the handguard, and the hand guard was the more modern texture and not
    the pebble dash:
    http://www.fortunecity.com/meltingpot/lodge/616/l1a1.html
None were single fire only they all could be set to full auto so they were not true
L1A1's and the fire selector switch was like an Imbel FAL.

Around 94 we started getting the Imbel style ones which were
    my favourite:

There is still at least one still in stock in the country right now to add to the armoury.

It certainly was, and now I have a face for your handle! Great to talk to you guys in person. What's the handle of the chap with the goatee who was in later? Anyway, fear me, for I am the well-armed n00b.

Sorry to steal your thunder, dude! I was of two minds myself, but then I decided that since I was buying defenderdude's JG G36C as a secondary, I should just get on with standardising my armoury from the get-go. I wanted the SL-8 since about 15 minutes after I learned about airsoft, and even more when I found out about that it is compatible with the other G36 models, and has full-auto. It has, apparently, a very tight-bore barrel (.04 tighter than the other G36 models) and good quality parts, so it's a worthy main AEG. As much as it may pain the retailers to hear it, I'll try and avoid buying any other AEGs for a while. I like this combination.

However, if you're really jonesin' for an SL-8, learn from this episode, and make your order straight away from here :D 1 in stock.

No access to a scanner so it's a picture of a picture but yes the Irish FNs had 3 slots.

The Flash eliminator on the 2nd pic looks weird! or mabey its the pic.
The stock is different too to the ones I used.

The Wood stocked ones had Grenade launcher sights on them and
to take the gas plug out was a dream.

The Layer imbel type had no grenade sights and the gas plug was a bitch
to get out and also the gas regulator was different and less user friendly.

There is a BFA attached to the rifle. That was my mate in the middle of an assault... we were FSG... I was manning the Bren. Those FNs were like new, they were newer rifles bought before the FN was changed for the Steyr and were rarely used in Clonmel barracks, they were made available to our unit when we visited for a camp.

This is what I hope to replicate down the line. I'll have to save up for the new FN to base this project on first.

I'll be picking up an SL8 myself in a couple of weeks, i had a feel of the CA one tony's selling and its a beauty. they "DO" take G36 mags which is a bonus, ive had countless people contradicting me on that so i made a point of trying a G36 mag in the SL8 in MIA. also tony tryed it too, they also have full auto but the body is only marked for single for realism i suppose.,

Genghiz, the first pic is an SL9, known for its extra long top rail, the SL8 has the carry handle/scope thingy, im not 100% sure about the second pic, maybe a G36C rail on either an SL8 or SL9.,
