Hunting Districts

Just wondering if many hunts are experiencing any changes in their districts due to new roads, houses being constructed? I know my local hunt is having to change the draws of all the meets due to new roads carving up the hunt district.

Hope everyone has had a good season and that not too many meets were lost due to the weather!

Yes, it's definitely a problem with the increasing tracts of new road across the countryside. I know that the two hunts that look after central Meath (the Meath Hounds and the Tara Harriers) have had to take a look at several of their meets to take into account the M3 motorway and the lands which are being used for ancillary works around it.

The eastern part of the country seems to be suffering quite a lot with all the new roads. In the last 5-10 years we've had at least 3 new major roads go through our hunting district, which has played havoc with meets. It's been pretty awkward having to re-draw the card and then get used to hunting in a different direction and then learn where the fox tends to run as the 'usual' paths have changed.

Where abouts are you togster? Sounds like you've got lots to contend with. Getting a new hunt started is never easy, and it's not helped by the fact that you've got new roads carving up your district!

In the west. When i say new it is about 5 years old but i know for the first 3 years it was a major headache to get sufficient land to hunt on. Not too many major roads but some all the same. Had a bad accident with some hounds getting killed crossing a busy road.
