Interesting to see that Freddie Piper is putting up The Pier Off Licence for auction. Never heard much of the place since it opened up.. all the other off licence seems to do well in the town. I assume the prices were to high or the selection of drink was poor?

I found it fairly good tbh, almost as good a selection as other places, i think pp made them close earlier than others?

Whats weird is the small one beside the Ritz seems to do a lot better and people seem to pick it over it. To be honest, I dont see many people using it besides teenages who seem to hang around it in gangs. (Before anyone suggests, I am not implying there is under age drinking. There probably all over 18)

I wasnt implying it, but do you have facts that they got in trouble for selling to under agers? Just because a group of young people (who indeed could be over 18, I would not know) hang around outside the shop does not mean they were served illegaly?

Which off-licence are ye on about? If it is The Pier, ya have to remember the main entrance is right opposite Spar. Teenagers always (and have for years now) hang out on Spar wall.

Although, some of them try their luck in the offie. There has been days when I worked there when I had more underagers attept to buy drink than actual people in buying drink.

Iv seen a fair share outside the doors. That's all I am going to say, anything else someone is going to pick up wrong. Everyone hangs across the road at Spar Wall or the other entrance where there is that seat thingy (across from where Centra had its main entrance).

What do you know about wines anyway? You would think an off licence specialising in wines would have staff who know one wine from another. Nothing personal, just a tad bit weird? Applies to restaurants to.

Sully, you don't need to be an expert to sell wine. If ya have a few basics, ya can go very far.
Of course, there is a wine expert who works there most of the time, but even he needs a day off :D

So you can tell the differences between each wine, tell where they come from, the date, how good they are etc? I thought that was the idea of The Pier Off Licence, before it failed :p

No, I said basic knowledge. I.e. if someone wants a dry austrailian wine, I can show them one. Thats a basic knowledge.
Anyway, it's irrelevent now, cos I havn't worked their since last summer and it's closing now.

I don't know if you were asked to come on here and defend businesses run by Paul/Freddie but considering your newly registered and your posts are harping on about how great the businesses are - I am going to close the topic before anyone else comes and joins in.

Paul came and has addressed the points raised and dismissed all rumors circulating and I have no problem with that. Its a wise move. So, lets leave it at that.

Bare in mind, this is a Waterford County Board. The Pier Off License in my (and others) eyes was a very good idea but I was surprised to see it go up for sale so quick after opening. Hence, the start of a discussion. ;)

Note: I have removed the post making unfounded claims about the selling of drink to people under the legal age. No proof - No Post. :)

    Topic Closed.
