A friend of mine, 40, never drove before. Last week her bf showed her how to work the pedals/gears etc and she got in the drivers seat and drove first time, no clutch problems starting off or stopping. Has anyone heard of this?

Some people are naturals when it comes to things like that. I don't drive cars myself but the first time I sat behind the wheel it all just jelled into place. I was tearing up and down the beach and pulling hand break skids etc :D

Loved it, but wouldn't be in a hurry to get a car licence.

The day i got my provisional I got insured in gf car and we went around the local industrial estate for quiet area to practice at evening. Had no problems at all picking up the use of the pedals, clutch, etc.

Some people can pick it easy but ive known a few people that after months of lessons still cant drive on the road properly.

Ive never had any lessons, just two pretests before my test

Yeah, my first time driving around an empty car park went pretty much without a hitch, didn't stall or anything. The thing is, that when you get on the open road, and there are more things to think about than just finding the biting point, that's when a lot of people will have some initial trouble.

My first day driving on my 17th birthday ... not drove before this got into the car at 9am, by 9.30 i was soo comfortable i went onto the roads. By mid afternoon I drove to a different city 85 miles away*

*the above sounds dangerous I know but I sat my test 3 weeks after my 17th birthday and passed first time.

    I am now only 17 and a half ....
