Error Code 43 with new graphics card

I bought a intel gamer machine off komplett with this motherboard, and a Gigabyte GeForce 8400GS gfx card. I also bought a HIS Radeon X1550 the other day to run a third monitor with my pc.

I have the latest drivers installed, but there's no signal coming from the new card, when I look in device manager it says the device is installed, but it is disabled due to an error, code 43 and says it is incompatible.

Is there any solution to this problem? will i have to buy a different card?

    Thanks.

    back up there...

so your computer has a geforce 8400gs and a HIS radeon x1550 in it?

i reckon thats the problem :D

you would need the same card...

    e.g 2 x 8400gs or 2 x radeon x1550

    1 PCI Express x16
    3 PCI Express x1
    3 PCI

does that mobo actually take 2 gpu's?

id castrate him if i were you :p

oh well. but im positive you can only use the same cards in sli/crossfire mode.
and that motherboard doesnt look like it supports either.

you see that blue strip on the motherboard where the graphics card goes, thats a pci-16 slot.
a motherboard that can use 2 graphics cards in sli would essentially have 2 of these blue slots.

    yours has 1 pci x 16 slot.
    and 3 pci x 1 slot.

Get a 5 dollar card off ebay, an old PCI Fx or Geforce series card. No point buying another new card if it's only to run a monitor. You can run Ati and Nvidia cards together in the same system by the way, even though this is probably a conflict with both drivers trying to access the same file

you sure? I tried using a nVidia 8600GTS with the ati and i keep getting the same error that the ati card isn't compatible, am i missing something?

I'm not 100% but I do believe you can only have one gfx driver running under windows vista.

I.e. you can get away with running 2 different gfx cards as long as they use the same driver: x2 different ATI and x2 different Nvidia cards.

You should be able to run different brand gfx cards side by side in XP though.

    EDIT:
    http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device/display/multimonVista.mspx

    "Multimonitor Support in WDDM

drivers do not support "heterogeneous multi-adapter" multi-monitor implementations. Specifically:

All graphics adapters in a system must use the same display driver model. That is, all of them should either be running XPDM or WDDM. The driver models are mutually exclusive, and Windows Vista does not allow the simultaneous loading of both an XPDM driver and a WDDM driver.

If multiple graphics adapters are present in a system, all of them must use the same WDDM driver. If there are two graphics adapters with WDDM drivers from two different manufacturers, then Windows will disable one of them. The VGA adapter will be enabled, and the second device will be disabled.

Notice that XPDM drivers still support heterogeneous multi-adapter as they did in Windows XP. A user who has such a configuration working fine in Windows XP will encounter a problem when upgrading to Windows Vista. An external monitor connected to one of the graphics adapters will have no video signal, because it is disabled. An error message will appear on system boot, as described later in this article."

So Vista is the issue mate not the drivers or the cards. Looks like you need another geforce or another ATI and ditch one of your current cards :-(
