    Hey guys, Presently i am trying my best to move jobs, because i am not happy at all where i am ... therefore i need to get a new job .. i have been on three interviews each job told me i was over qualified for the position, yet i screwed up the interviews!
    I can't sell myself at all .. Im fairly confident and i know i could do each job with my eyes closed ... Why am i failing at interviews :( Im never going to be able to move!
    PS ive studied all the interview tips etc ...
    I am wondering should i tell them that interviews arent really my thing before they start to interriogate me ...

    No- seriously, I've never had an interview that I've not got offered the job. That's a winning streak of about 15 at this stage, including a few where's it's been two out of twelve that got to Interview stage.

    By the time it gets to Interview- they know about your credendtials and at that stage the main thing is how is this person going to fit in. Try not to be too formal but not too friendly either. I's a hard medium. Maybe- talking to your mates new girlfriend in the pub is a good scenario to think of. I always aska personal question of the interviewers and turn the tables a little as in- how long have you been working here yourself. Don't bother with Interview tips, you'r mind will be on trying to maintain eye contact and you'll end up concentrating at that, staring like a goon and not being yourself.

    Have some research done of the company and it's always good to drop a name, find someone who knows someone who works there and ring them to ask them what it's like. This does take balls but most people are very helpful about these things. It shows that not only are doing some active research about the job- you're a socialable sort who knows people already in the company- "one of us". I suppose this is probably harder to do in small companies but I've found it a useful tip.

    How do you think you are screwing up the interviews? Is there something specifically you think you are doing bad in interviews?

    The over-qualified bit might be more the problem. Many companies won't want somebody who is over-qualified for a role as they might feel that the person would get bored quickly, leave shortly after starting or not like the tasks involved and hence be ineffective.

    Maybe you should set you sights on something you are more suited to, something that you are not over-qualified for.

    There are career counsellor types who offer an interviewing service. Would be worth the investment IMO.

    Preparation Preparation Preparation. Know the job spec 100% and know your CV 100%.

    You know what they are going to ask in an interview. The questions are always the same, strengths/ weaknesses/why are you leaving your last job etc. If you prepare a convincing answer and tie that into a requirement you will nail the interview. i.e. I do this and this in my current job, which i see is a major requirement in the role you have to offer so I can adapt these skills to the job without an issue.

    Interviews suck. I hate them but how you manage your nerves but produce good ideas is a good indication of how you cope with stress.
