diseqc1.0 compatable with 2.0?

    Hello all.
I have a Topfield TF3000CI receiver which is Diseqc 1.0 enabled. I got a new 4 way switch which has "diseqc 20" (which I presume is 2.0) on it, but I can only operate one lnb at a time . If I even connect another lnb I get nothing at all from anywhere - not even a power signal. Is there any way around this?
    Thanks.

A Diseqec switch only does operate one LNB at a time.

As the word "switch" indicates you can only switch/change between several LNBs, one after the other.;)
And in your case, most 2.0 DiSEqC switches are backwards compatible, so don't bother. The only differ between 1.0 and 2.0 is that with 2.0 the signals will be send bi-directional to enable a backchannel for communication with the components.

Thanks for the replies guys - but I should have made myself clearer.
When I said " one lnb at a time " I meant I have to climb the ladder and connect the other lnb AND disconnect the other lnb.
If I have two or more lnb's connected at the same time I get nothing - not even a power signal!
    Hope you understand. Thanks again.

Then it is broken or you have receiver connected to wrong port.

if you send NO commands to a Diseqc switch of ANY type, and set your receiver to no Diseqc and add all LNBs, you will get the first one.

Try that in case the box is sending strange commands.

You have to connect the "Receiver" input on the switch to your receiver, and then use the other connections on the switch to connect to your LNBs (simultaneously), usually numbered on the switch, and then tell the receiver what LNB (pointing at 13E or 19.2E or whatever) is on which number on the switch. Then when you switch channels on the receiver, the receiver knows which LNB to switch to if it needs to switch to a different LNB (different satellite).

    Does this help?

As biol said above but with a bit more meat.
Within your setup/installation settings for the individual Satellites on your receiver will be one that relates to diseqc.
    First is diseqc Enable/disable.
When enabled you are then able to set the diseqc number for each individual satellite.
    This is usually 1,2(of 2) for a 2 way diseqc, 1, 2,3,or 4 (of 4) for a 4 way switch or perhaps 1 to 8 (of 8) for a diseqc motor.
The number corresponds to the lnb connection on the diseqc switch numbered 1 to 4.
The fifth connection on a 4 way diseqc is the feed to the receiver.

If you are sure each dish lnb is correctly alligned to a particular satellite then all you have to do is set up the correct diseqc number on your receiver satellite settings. When you scan that satellite the receiver will then scan the corresponding signal from that lnb.
If you get the numbers mixed up you may get no signal or wrong channels scanned in under wrong satellite.

If you are not entirely sure, probably better to attach each lnb separately first as Watty explained, scan all the channels, then fit all lnbs to the diseqc in the correct order and check your settings are correct in order to receive up to 4 different satellites channels without touching anything other than your remote.

I think normally you wouldn't need a switch if you're using a motor. Can you not just use DiSEqC 1.2?

I was recently wondering about this, if it's possible (common) on receivers to be able to use, for example, one dish with a 3-LNB setup and another dish with a motor (1 LNB), and connect all 4 to a 4-way switch? I know how to set up a 3 (or 4) LNB array on one dish, or a motor on a dish with 1 LNB, or even 2 LNBs on 2 different dishes, but does it become difficult/possible to use/setup 2 dishes, one to use 3 LNBs, and one to use a motor?

In theory you can have a motor on each port... But not many Receivers have the menu to do Motor control AND switch at same time. Most receivers only offer one or the other.

The Fortec Star Beta does allow LNB1 .. LNB4 selection AND GotoX motor control at same time, but I haven't tested it.
