I'm heading to Vancouver for the summer on the USIT student visa and am looking for some information.

I've heard that the east side of vancouver is pretty dodgy but what part of the east side is that (surely not all of it)??

I'm also wondering about where we can stay since a lot of places seem reluctant to rent to students.

Also is it easy to get jobs over there????

    Any must do/see in Vancouver???

    Thanks!!!

First of all just to say that I've been living over here for the last 6 months and its a great spot to be. Very nice people, very safe and good heading out.

We're living on the east side of Van now (East Hastings near Burnaby) and although it doesnt compare to being downtown its not too bad. In Vancouver there's a large amount of homeless and junkies but I've never had any problem with them. They're pretty much harmless some that do approach will ask for some spare change and even if you told them to get lost they'll still say thanks anyway.

A good place to look for housing would be on Craigslist. Anywhere near downtown or near a Skytrain would be decent enough. The public ransport over here is good. When your looking for a place just say that your a professional going to live for a year or something even say that you have a job sorted.

Jobwise its alright depending on what your looking for. I dont have a visa or anything but am doing construction and I got that easy enough. There's plenty of jobs in retail jobs and all that. Also recruitment agencies will get you temp work pretty quick if you wanted to do that.

As for things to see and do, your a student you can go sightseeing when your 50. Go to the pub and get your drink on.
