Argassi, Zakynthos or Hersonnissos Crete

My girlfriend and I, 22 and 24, are looking to book 2 weeks in either zakynthos or crete in september. We would like advice on which resort is better or whether either is unsuitable for our age.

Our shortlist is Windmill bay apartments in argassi in zakynthos or marni villaage in koutouloufari (near hersonnissos) in Crete.

would argassi be too quiet? we are happy to chill by the pool during the day and go out for meals, have a few beers in a local bar without going clubbing at night. i just don't want to end up with no bars to choose from. are therE any water sports or go karting nearby?

the other option is marni village near hersonnissos. However, i've heard that crete is very basic. The complex looks nice but going with panorama are the studios really basic?

Would Zakynthos be considered more advanced than Crete? I have been told to expect Greece is a bit behind Spain/Canaries/Cyprus but I just don't want to end up somewhere for 2 weeks with a girlfriend upset over the "basic" bathroom or shower facilities or a dead resort!

Ive never been to zakynthos but anyone i know who has gone has said its quiet.

I was in piskopiano in crete, which is a mile or 2 uphill from hersonnissos. I think it might be beside koutouloufari, not sure. There was a few little villages running into each other - you couldnt really tell you were going between them other than signs on the road. (might not be the same place though) We liked it there, there was a good few restaurants, there was a few bars (not sure how many cause we went to the same 1 every night before going down to hersonnissos). Its close enough to hersonnissos to go out if you fancy it but far enough away to be away from the madness. the only thing is its not near the beach, but that didnt bother me because i prefer the pool anyway :)

Hi I've been to both Crete and Zakynthos, I really prefer Zakynthos. I stayed in Argassi the last two years and I loved it. There's plenty to do by day, watersports down at the beach, loads of organised day trips and activities. By night Argassi is lively enough but mostly with couples and families, there are a few lively bars like the factory and the magic mushroom, but laganas is only 10mins away by taxi (€12 approx) if you really fancied a wild night out!!

Argassi is definitely your best bet. That whole area on Crete is not really Greece, it's just a big home away from home for holidaymakers looking for sun.

If you want the madness then it's easy even to get a taxi to Laganas or Kalamaki.
