Someone I know has offered to give me a spin in his "plane" over the next few weeks (depending on the weather). :)

Before you overly go "Wow" its a 32 year old Cessna 4 seater in which he has a share and some friends think I am suicidal to go up in it but the plane looks fine and well maintained and he has been flying since he was 9 so he is well experienced

He is based in Wicklow and said that we would be up in the air for about 90 minutes

I was just wondering has anyone any suggestions of places to get him to fly over to take photos of (other than my house of course:D)

Fly over the Wicklow mountains and just start clicking then put all the shots together for a huge ariel map!! Seriously though Lugala and the lakes around Sally Gap and Glenmacnass Waterfall would be excellent from the air..

Most places probably look better from the air simply because it's not a normal view we get. Glendalough, roundwood, Dalkey Island, the coast line in general I'd say he can cover a lot in 90 mins.
What gear are you bringing ?

If in doubt bring everything !
    d80, 12-24 f4, 18-135 kit, 50 f1.8, 100 f2.8, 70-300vr
(no Tripod which I presume will be of no use in the Air ! )

I would probably leave the 12-24 on except for more detail using the 100 f2.8

Tho one bit of advice I can give you is, If there is something in particular you really need to shoot (from a similar experience) take plenty of shots, and shoot on high shutter speed as this type of plane are pretty shakyyyyy. and if you can get you're hands on a lens with IS would be an advantage

Most of the time looks the countryside quite boring from above. Any parks, castles, lakes and some human structures would be great.

there's a quarry to the west of the sugarloaf that i flew over recently, without my camerra, unfortunately.
It's in a dramatic situation, a great gash in the side of the nountain.

Besides which it's invisible from the road, so you might get a sneak peak/peek !
    :D

Should be good, good opportunity! Reminds of the clip for Canon's Assignment :)

Last year's one was on near end of June. Plenty of air shows on around the country though - headed over to the aviation forum to look for a list but couldn't find any unfortunately.

I thought the Galway/Salthill airshow was cancelled because of the protests.
Pity, it was a great show

Fly over a few of the local small businesses, then offer to sell them a framed print. That kinda thing seems to be quite popular.

It's one of the things I'd love to do.

    Here's Portugal from the Airyplane.

There are restrictions over where you can fly in the Dublin area.
I did a flying lesson out of Weston & we headed out over Maynooth.
    Not much interesting to photograph.
