TBH, I thought the other side would win but in turned that the Blu Ray won the battle for the next HD player.
Planning to get one fairly soon but prices are still quite steep.
The cheapest I have found so far is Samsung BD-P1400 Blu Ray Player on Pixmania for 350 Euro and the nearest to it is the Sony BDP-S300 Blu-Ray DVD player for 390 (price for this one going up).
Play.com has the Samsung for 310 Euro (free delivery) but they do not deliver to Ireland!
Any idea where to get a cheaper one.
I would not be that much concerned with the upcoming 1.1 or 1.2 as they seem to be useless additions.

A ps3 is probably your best bet, always a few over on adverts.ie or push the boat out and go for the 40 gig new

TBH, I thought of the PS3. However, i do not play much games on console and the other thing is I've heard that once a BR movie is playing, the noise levels (obviously from the fans) are quite high!

A PS3 makes the most sense if you're buying a Blu-Ray player now simply because it is firmware and profile upgradeable (most other blu-ray players are not and as such you may not be able to access profile 2.0 functionality on them). It will play avi's too which is a big bonus media wise ( i hear it also plays games :))

FYI I have one and the fans are not noticeable when watching a blu-ray.

I bought one of the cheap iBood HD-DVD Toshiba's to tide me over until the BR market matures. There really is only one option in the BR market and that is the PS3 at the moment
