WLAN Speed

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-FZ21Z Laptop & a Netgear Rangemax DG834N, but I can't get them to talk to one another at anything above 54.0 Mbps.
The fault seems to be with the laptop 'cos when I drill down to it's properties I can't get anything other than a,b or g, yet the Sony specs say -

    "Wireless LAN Type 802.11a/b/g/Draft n"

I'm not very good at IT, so if someone can help, could they do it in English please?

Cant find any detailed spec's for the Sony Model number listed but I imagine there might be a setting or something similar prehaps in the Wireless cards properties to enable the Draft N Function, it may be defaulting to regular a/b/g networks speed (although I could be wrong.) Try emailing sony support or indeed seeing if there support website has a forum similar to this where they might have the relavent answers.

I checked the spec and both the router and the laptop have draft n. Go into the config page of the router and see if it is transmitting a draft n signal. I'd say it most likely defaults to g.

Not all draft n devices from different manufacturers talk to each other- I would ring tech support for both manufacturers to clarify that their "n" support is compatible with each other. Where draft n devices don't support each other- they will normally revert back to their next most compatible speed setting (normally "g") which would be your 54 mbps.

Brought home my work laptop with a "Netgear Rangemax Wireless notebook adaptor WN511B" and it works fine at "N" speeds and increased range etc. So problem lies with the Sony Laptop I guess
