Have you tried the new website? Think it's myucd.ie - I'm sure I saw the list of arts subjects there.

hey i don't know for sure but I think you can, I'm not 100% sure though, do check it out on the website, but I can't see any reason why not. I'm in my final year and I study Italian and Geography. I find it's great, when you're sick of looking at maps or at grammar you can switch into studying the other one for a bit, taking a break and then return to the original one appreciating it more (imho), they're really different but at times you find that things can over lap, which makes it really interesting. Both of my departments are friendly-as is Spanish from what my friends tell me. If you've any particular questions pm me.

Really? What career could you do with Geography & Italian? Did you do Italian in Sec. School

No I didn't take it in school. I just chose it because I liked it, and it wasnt French which I'd studied for 10 years and was sick of by the time I was 18  but I still wanted to do a romantic language.

Yup, it is pretty cool, I like both subjects a lot, and I've only ever disliked 2 courses that I've had to do, one in each subject, which isn't bad for 4 years, but then after doing them I saw the positive.

As for careers, that is what I'm currently trying to figure out :D

So far it seems like I could just specialise in one or the other jobs wise, and I kind of prefer to work in the geographical field, but there are loads of jobs out there for Italian, if you look, but I don't want to work with it, I'm afraid that i'd end up hating my job and hence hating/resenting/disliking the language, and I don't want to do that :) There are options out there though, thank fook. :D

But the thing with an arts degree is that it just opens many doors into things that you wouldn't normally expect to get into, eg i've a friend who did a degree in philosophy and is now working for an advertising company in London, likewise I know a girl who is now in her final year of studying to be a dietician who at first studied to be a primary school teacher, just because you do a degree in something doesn't mean you'll end up working in that field.

Best thing to do is to do what makes you happiest, not what makes the big bucks, if you're happy and good at what you do, you'll get a job.

In St. Pat's you can do a humanities degree with your teaching training.
