    looking at these 2 laptops:
    Inspiron 1525 - (N0352504) €529 without EPP
    Dual Core T2330 processor 1.60Ghz
    15.4' widescreen TFT

    Vostros 1500 - (N0315029) €460 without EPP
    Celeron processor M540 1.86GHz
    15.4' widescreen Truelife

rest of specs for both are same... 2GB RAM, 120GB HD, basic graphics card etc..

just wondering is there much difference in the processors and screen and which would you recommend for college student use i.e assignments/dvs/music/photos etc...

    thanks in advance :)

The dual core will outperform the celeron in everything.

    Well worth the price difference.

Celeron at an absolute last resort. For very basic computing on the cheap.

Single cores are on the way out.

Just wondering does the type of processor matter when a laptop's just being used for Web, watching dvd's?

And nope. 1.6Ghz is fine for what you want.

technically it matters for everything; but no you should not experience any severe performance issues when on the internet or watching a DVD. The big benefit there is that the single core is dirt cheap.

for the sake of 60 quid though i'd still grab the dual core. 2x1.6ghz > 1x1.86Ghz
