Misleading Job Ad (rant)

Applied for a job that was advertised as Permanent Full Time, with an hourly rate of €10.50

    Got an interview.

During the interview, I get asked how much i hope to be paid, so I say €10.50 - wondering why they bothered asking when they had advertised their rate.

"Oh we don't pay that much I'm afraid - our rate is around €9."

    Then:
"So it says here you're available for full time hours"
    "Yes, full time, permanent"
"This position is part time, up to 20 hours a week"

Why the fu*k would they advertise a job that doesn't exist? It's only a crappy shop job, but I'm desperate so i didn't want to say anything, as i intend accepting if they actually offer it to me.

Does job-hunting have to be such a horrible experience?

    Job hunting is tough alright.

Unfortunately employers normally give the task of putting job adverts on jobsites to the junior person in the office. Hence things like incorrect details get put in the job advert.

There's not too much you can do at this stage...

Are you still going to take the job?

That was misleading alright, did you point this out?

You can take the job but keep looking

Yup, I'll be taking the job if it's offered

Didn't point out their deception, I didn't want to look like a nit-picker. Even though it was probably just an honest mistake as dublindude said, I was afraid of getting on the guy's wrong side. That's how nuts interviews make me

Also, having no qualifications makes me feel a bit unworthy :)

Some jobs ads can be very misleading or occasional fabricate but most of the time it is usually down to HR ineptness that the wrong information is represented in an ad.

I actually applied for a a Systems Administrator role last summer but when I went for the interview I realized that the IT Manager was actually interviewing me to replace him  The actual role that he was telling me about was way over my head but the original specs that I read seemed to suit me down to the ground and HR obviously though so too or they wouldn't have contacted me.

Job hunting is no walk in the park that's for sure.
