I'm just after buying a new 7.1 amp & want to upgrade my speakers next. Leaning towards the bose cubes & was going to buy them a couple at a time. Just checked them on ebay & they're roughly £99 each !!!

    Are they that good ?

Do you need a subwoofer with them ? Do they all have to be wired through the sub if you do need one ? Can you just use another one as the centre speaker ?

No, The bose cubes will sound dreadful without their on subs which handles crossover frequencies etc - you really need to by the lot togther.

And T.B.H after using bose sound for 8yrs it is very good an old but to be honest you can get much better sound for cheaper if you do your research properly

    Hope this helps

    Hi Alan,

Did you mean that the cubes have to run through a bose speaker e.g.
Amplifier ---> Bose Subwoofer ---> Bose Cubes ?

If so, that's not really a problem as I don't mind upgrading (assuming it can handle 7.1)

Have you any other recommendations ?

Right now I have a 5.1 sony setup which is ok, but lacking "ooomph". I used to have Tannoys but unfortunatly (for me) moving to a house with a smalled living room meant I had to downgrade.

Yep, the bose acoustimass cubes have to be matched with their respective bass module as it contains the crossovers which filter out the bass frequencies and only sends the mid/highs to the satellites.

The reason you quite often see the cubes on their own on flea bay is that they are stolen! They are the easiest things to take and quite often the bass module is left behind!

You will find it difficult to source a bose bass module on it's own. They cannot be sold seperately.

The current range are AM6, AM10 and AM15. Get a demo in peats and then listen to a similar system using a sub/sat combination and make up your own mind.

Cheers folks. Might just look at more regular mid sized then.

    Any tips on brand ?

I have the AM15. I am very happy with it but the bass module is big (41.4 cm x 20.6 cm x 73.9 cm). Unless you have somewhere to hide it away, it could be a problem. It comes as 5.1 but can be extended to 6.1. The unit I have, about 1 year old, does not handle 7.1.

    @ Recycler1
Is spot on , Bose can only handle NEO:6 or 6.1 with the AM16, Bose AM15 with a additional speaker €200 from Bose

    Alternatives are Kef KHT3005/2005 , Tannoy Arena/ Lite /,Jamo A402/S 606 , Harmon Kardon KTKS11.....

All really depends on your AMP in truth. You never said what it was BTW

    @recycler1, akaSol,

This thread was practically a year old, no point in resurrecting it now.

    Closed.
