there are settings in vista you can tweak that might make it a bit faster and have you uninstalled any programs that came with the laptop that you don't need. http://www.pcdecrapifier.com/ might get rid of some unwanted stuff. Other than that if you've been using it and don't like how its performing you should probably install xp. There should be plenty of guides around on what you need to do, but if you do a google search, you might find if people with the same laptop had any trouble with drivers etc

What kind of spec laptop do you have? 2 gigs of ram? I'm dualbooting between xp/vista or was until I borked my xp installation but that's another story :) Vista needs more resources but it's not as bad as it's made out to be. You can turn off some things like indexing to make it run smoother. 2 gigs of ram(+ decent spec) is what I would recommend for running it.

Took offense to that! I was of that thinking until upto the start of this week. Had a business (I know....with Vista Home Premium on it...) machine in that had a damaged Vista install, would boot to a black screen with mouse cursor but thats all. After many attmepts using the Repair My Computer option from the Safe Mode choices, I decided to do a repair install (like good ol' XP used to let you do) but..whats this?!...no repair option!?. Thats right Microsoft removed the option to allow you to do a repair install to fix a broken OS but maintain your user files and accounts. So this has turned me into an avid detester of Vista, its bloated, crap , does nothing right, slow, badly designed and just plain not nice.
So yes to the OP, change to XP and don't look back.

Yep, they replaced it with the disk backup utility, now you're supposed to image the hard drive and restore from that. I'd like to still have the repair install option too though.

A lot of people would consider to move from Vista to XP an upgrade :)

All i can say is that i've had to use system restore at least twice a week since i bought my laptop with Vista. Im trying to stick it out but i may soon give up and upgrade to XP.

Just to give the other side of the coin:

Vista will get better, xp will stagnate.

Not a lot tbh, readyboost works best if you have 1gig of ram, you may notice a performance increase. Your system seems well able for vista though.
