Is there any applications that allow you to download attachments from the likes of gmail or what ever?

Also does opera normally come preinstalled on the 3 E65? Or do you have to buy it?

the built-in email client in s60 3rd usually handles attachments quite well. (pdf, html, word etc)...(btw and ironically, the s60 gmail app doesn't load/open attachments...what's that all about???)
i don't think 3's e65 has opera built in - nokia's safari-ish browser is pretty good as it is! Although opera mobile 9.5 will support flash incl. The Real Youtube... So that'll be nice!!! (not available yet )

It can be done if you access your gmail using OperaMini.

i use the email client on the e65 for attachments with no hassle, as long as the phone can run the formats

opera doesn't come with it. opera mini is free as i'm sure you know but you'd have to buy the symbian version

Correct me if I'm wrong, but om wont open attachments, and that was the original question... Or has om4 added that feature?

OperaMini does not open attachments itself, but it does allow you to open links to attachments using the built in browser as it opens that when it finds the links to them.

If you just use the built in browser to access gmail then gmail will force their wap page on you which is worse than the seperate gmail app for viewing the emails, not that the seperate gmail app is bad.

good points, though om won't open your document reader so you can view/edit ms word attachments,... But then, om's free and a grrrrreat application regardless of what it can't (yet) do!
The gmail application is a bit clumsy in my opinion - although the setup is conveniently easy as you don't need to bother with settings!
