Hi all, recently unsubscribed to sky, so I purchsed some aerials for the Irish channels , what I am asking is now is there anyway to point configure my sky box box or change the dish to point it to recieve the english channels directly so enabling me to recieve these where my irish channels existed instead of now endlessly pressing buttons on the remote to access the extra channels on the sky menu, I have heard a rumour about this, not so sure myself heres hoping.....

    Hi Dermondo,
First thing to unplug the power to your skybox. Next remove the sky viewing card. Leave out the power plug for approx 2mins and then re-connect the power lead without the sky card, Do not reinsert the card.

Now hopefully when you boot up your box 101, will become BBC1 instead of RTE1 being scrambled.

You can furthermore get an FTV card which will give you an extra couple of channels such as CH4, CH5, Sky 3 etc for a once off fee...

Cool, thanks steveon, must give that a go later, any idea where I give a hold of the FTV cards

    Sky. about £22.

But you need a UK inc N.I. postcode address.

If your box does not do BBC1 on 101 there are other tricks.

    Still no joy ?

    Try this.

Go to Sky News. Press the red button to enter Sky News Active. Once in sky active, remove your viewing card, turn it upside down and put it back into the box. Press backup to exit Sky News Active. This should give you the standard London EPG if everything went alright.

Works fine for me without having to re-insert the card. Remove the card when in Sky News Active and then press the TV Guide button and it will display the English EPG. Ive noticed though that sometimes you may have to press the TV guide button for a second time to bring up the guide.

You should defo get your hands on a FTV card as its well worth the extra few quid. Ch4, Ch5, Sky Three, Five US etc etc

But as far as i know satone.tv don't supply them anymore.

I have a contact cork based that can get them for around €100 for an FTV card.

A tidy profit on the £20 Sky sells them for then.

I guess it is but considering they don't get sent here by sky, only to English postcodes that its a fair price when exchange rates are taking into it...and at a once off for ch4 ALONE I would recommend it.

A fair price? £20 is €26.27 by today's exchange rate. Charging almost 400% of the actual cost is a fair price? How much is a stamp to Ireland from the UK, 48p?

Sorry, steveon - €100 is grossly over priced. Another example of rip off Ireland and the consumer getting fleeced over the price of UK imports.

(yes I know, it's only a Sky card, but still..).

Aint me selling em but I dont think its over priced but worth getting one if you can buy one cheaper

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46,556 ✭✭✭✭muffler

Thats a ridiculous price. Shit Im in the wrong business if thats the profit on the cards. Im living near the border with loads of friends and relatives in N.I.

Must think about a career change shortly ;)

If I could get my hands on cards I'd sell them myself...cheapest I've ever got one for is €50

UK ex-subscription cards work too. €100 is taking the p.

The only way to permently save the bbc on 101 in your case is to get your hands on an FTV card as we indicated earlier

Are you certain the card is inserted upside down i.e. with the gold contacts facing upwards?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 393 ✭✭Dermondo

I have taken the card out all together, but will try your idea, would be interested in the FTV card at the right price depending on the extra channels it would give me, thanks again guys
