I don't see this "guitar" in your post... perhaps my pic-o-vision is faulty on my PC? :p

You pic-o-vision is fine, unfortunately I only just purchased this so I'm still awaiting delivery. Heres some pretty low quality pics by the seller though:

I love the way it doesn't have a locking nut since I always set my Floyds to dive only but I kinda wish it had a quilt or flamed top. Still its a lot of guitar for the price :D

what about buying from the likes of chris's guitars in the states, since the mighty dollar is so low at the moment(anyone any experience from this crowd or others)is it worth it with the damn customs and vat and the likes?

Well I was there in aug last year....

I got a Musicman Bongo and SR5 for the same price shops charge for one here. So kind of 2 for the price of 1.

I got an exchange rate of 1:1.48 at the time.

The Guitar Centers are great. One in Boston has over 50 MM Bass to chose from. You'd be lucky to find 1 in Dublin.

My advice, if your heading over, go get yourself a deal!

I did hear that some of the Fender strats in the GC are not much little in price than those from Germany!

Guitar Centre's have a sale end of feb start of mar every year too. A proper sale unlike some of those Irish Shops.....

Thanks dude. Got it off Ebay for $460 + $80 shipping which is only 360 euro. If I get charged customs it will work out around 440. Carvin make some of the best playing guitars around but they have no resale value since people arent too familiar with them as they are all custom built and not available in shops to try. For example this just sold for 577 euro

Beecher - what's your Carvin like to play? I'm very interested in how you find the stainless frets and (is it ebony?) fretboard?

(that 5 piece neck looks nice !)

I'm still awaiting delivery on this one (and yes it is an ebony fretboard) but I do have another Carvin, albeit without stainless steel frets and I swear to god these things have the best necks ever on them! They are quite similar to the Ibanez Wizard necks but a little thicker and more C shaped.

I do have a strat which I replaced the neck on with a Warmoth neck with stainless steel frets. Im not sure if its the neck or the frets but the guitar is a lot brighter sounding (which I like), plus the frets are super smooth which makes bending effortless. If I could find someone over here who could do stainless steel refrets for a decent price I would probably get all my guitars re-fretted with them.

I thought that was Waltons for a minute :D:D ........ if only we had just one shop like that in Ireland. Then again we'd probably buy on line anyway as the prices would be so high.

Sounds great! Godd luck with the new Carvin. I think you are 100% right about them being great value for money second-hand.

FMI - Have you ever priced a stainless re-fret in Ireland?

I have a Fly with SS frets and exactly as you say bending on them is great, plus they still look and feel brand new after 5 years! It's interesting to know they feel good on other guitars too. Cheers.

I have enquired in a few places but nowhere seems to currently do them due to the fact that they would pretty much destroy the tools they use for nickel frets since stainless steel is much harder. One guy said he'd look into it further if I wanted him to do it but I would be looking at 400-450 euro.

A few places in England will do it if you ship them the necks for around 200-250 though.

As a side note Washburn are now using Parker fretboards/frets on some of their guitars. I would kill for a Nuno Bettencourt sig with those frets!

    Thanks for the info Beecher.
I've read that as long as you have the right kind of tools (ie diamond coated ) the SS should not destroy the tools but that in any event it takes twice as long and way more physical effort to work them compared to ordinary frets. They are great though.

FYI Washburn is owned by the same company that now also owns Parker guitars (US Music)
