feck..I was deleting some software from my laptop that I had for my now broken mp3 player.
(I went through the proper method of deletion via control panel)
I must have accidentally deleted a necessary sound file that I thought was part of the mp3 player files,
because when I went to turn on some music I got this message

'Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device.
There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly'

    also further details
    'C00D11BA: Cannot play the file
Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device, such as a sound card or sound controller. You might encounter this error message for one of the following reasons'

So the question is,is there a way of reinstalling the device?
and how does one go about doing this?

Do you have the OS on CD?

I'd go through the add new hardware routine select audio devices and follow instruction

Are you getting a "Add new Hardware" window when you load windows?

If you are, pop in the Xp disc, and use the add new hardware window, to find the Drivers on the XP disc.

Click let windows search for the driver, and choose the CD Drive as a "Search Location."

If that window doesnt come up,
right click My Computer, click properties, Click Hardware, Click Device Manger.

You should see the Audio Device with a Yellow Exlamation Mark next to it in the list.

Try right clicking, and click either Install or Properties.
If its properties, click install driver, and do the same as steps i told you above.

Im saying all this off the top of my head, so sorry for not being more specific.
