And boards is one of them! If i try and get to Boards.ie using my iPhone connected to live.vodafone.com using their proxy, i am getting a blocking error. I have noticed this on a few sites too. The question is why do vodafone have the power to block sites, email, etc, on their "internet"? since when does the "internet" only include stuff vodafone want to you to see? WTF are they playing at?

use opera mini or (depending on your phone model) opera mobile or mozilla's minimo! Work fine with vodafone rtg and billpay! Or are you on rtg and your age hasn't been verified? If you're over 18 pop into your local voda-shop with some id... Still: opera mini much much cheaper to use, and beats going through vodafone live portal in terms of speed etc...

what, you have to verify your age on voda to get full internet?? Thought it was just 3pay doing that kind of nonsense..

I'm on Vodfone and Boards.ie loads fine on my N95, both in the standard browser and Opera.

I'm inclined to say the problem is down to the configuration of your phone.

Yeah, they are quite strict about it now - I was with them for 6 years when I suddenly couldn't access most sites anymore lol ! Funnily, u can access opera to download mini, with which you have full access to all sites hahaha good a*s-covering!

Right. so, up till last night, everything worked great. i could reply to boards (done it a few times) post stuff on my site, etc. last night, half the pages i tried to visit did not work.

emmm, just checked on the phone now. not connected to Wifi, just though the GPRS connection, and it seems to be loading correctly. the sites i could not access last night are now accessable... i wonder was it my shouting at them a lot last night, or a system issue... ahh well, seems to be fixed.

    good for you :-)

Vodafone do not block any ports on their network, the only thing they have is content control so under 18s cant access certain sites. all you have to do is call them to remove that

well, it seems to be fixed now, but when it comes to blocking ports, how come i cant get imap, pop3 or anything other than HTTP or HTTPS? thats blocking ports...

dito... A number of apps on my e61 and n95/8 and treo only work with isp, and not with live! - gmail apps, profimail etc etc...
And by the way, if you're on rtg, phoning them re. age-restrictions is not enough! I'm a very good customer in a local voda shop, they've known me for years, yet they had to take a photo copy of dl to set my account to adult hahaha...

Ok, if you work for Voda Tech support, how to i get my POP3 and IMAP working with voda live (live.vodafone.com) and not isp.vodafone.ie (which wants to charge me 2c per kb, or a pretty crappy 50mb for 20quid a month (or what ever your trying to charge)..

yeah, same question! E61's and n95/8's built in email client won't work with live(nor the gmail app...)! Only with isp - which makes downloading and opening large attachments a no-no!
So, how do you set that up then???

In terms of application.....do you mean you are using vodafone live! and using their email service on their or are you trying to use the Live! apn to download the mail at a cheaper rate?

yep, use the cheaper rate to use the phone's email client for a non-vodafone email account... Only works with isp, it seems... But no big deal!
(it's prob'ly "the way it is", as gmail application and many other 3rd party apps that use internet do not work with live! either (in my humble experience...)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11 manOFtoon

3rd party applications are not actually supported by Vodafone, same with any other operator.

I've switched to billpay recently and got the 500meg "mobile Internet" addon.

Does this 500meg only apply to the Live! access point usage or can I use the ISP access point and this will use up the 500meg too?

Don't fancy getting charged extra for using the isp AP with MSN etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 934 ✭✭✭lotas

Only applies to live, since voda has decided "Internet" does not include IMAP or pop3 email...

Hahaha ... Thanks! Aaaah, now I can look forward to a peaceful night of rest in the knowledge of your shared, eh, knowledge... (beats the 3-tel-assister who told me, 'technology to use an n73 as a modem does currently not yet exist'...)
    Good night

Yeah, the live apn has always had ports blocked.
    This is common knowledge though.

The ISP apn though not entirely unrestricted has many more ports open than Live. Shame about the pricing structure though.

sorry ive been off work dont have internet at home. Just to make it clear live.vodafone.com is not an APN its a url.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 934 ✭✭✭lotas

manOFtoon: im sorry, you must be working for the wrong vodafone, but there are a couple of different access points, and live.vodafone.com is one of them. ISP, Office and HS are the other 3 that i know of. so, yes, there it is an APN, AND a URL.

Nope, its an APN. Thats why you provision people with "The live APN" on the HLR.

vodafone has an APN called vodafone live. the access point name for this access point is live.vodafone.com on every phone i've ever seen. is this not the case?
