    Hi there,

What's best for landscapes under very sunny conditions (Ethiopia):

    velvia
    portra
    provia

    or anything else?

    I'm confused by web propaganda

    Thanks,

    Hugh

I've used Sensia , Provia and Velvia before. Sensia gives a bit of a majenta cast from it. Provia is nice but Velvia is really nice. It's got a good reputation for a reason. I think Kodak films tend to give a slightly cooler tone to the images AFAIR?

If you can get to Gunnes in Wexford st, they'll be good for advice.

From my experience, Velvia is slightly less saturated than Provia and the Portra gives a slightly warmer tone in the pinks and peaches (for portraits etc).

I'd say depending on the day use Velvia (clear day) or Provia (to bring up the colour saturation and contrast on a hot, hazey day).

    Good luck!

Thanks for the replies, I nipped into Gunn's this a.m. but I forgot what JG suggested as I was in a rush and couldn't write it down. Eejit! but now that I think of it I think he said Velvia 100.
