well lads. Im ready to bring my stonemasons on site but the stone i have picked is a sandstone with a dry finish.Im concerned that it will be porous especially when my house is south facing.Would you recomend that i scratchcoat the blockwork before letting the boys get started.

Hi Clintfan.I'm in exactly the same position.I made some enquiries and was toldthat you can apply a sheets of bitchumine that have an adhesive backing. The walls must first be sealed with a primer thatseala the pores? It might be simpler to scratchcoat.helpful suggestions appreciated.:

What will that do to the 'breathability' of the wall behind the bitumen?

I don't know the answer but it would be useful to post details of the walls in question so as the more 'knowledgeable than I' can help

Thanks for all your replies ive been mad busy with my build so im only seeing your comments now.I went with a scratchcoat mixed with waterproofer the masons finish last week and then the heavens opened.I must say the scratchcoat method worked a treat and would definately recommend doing it this way.Dont like the idea of using bitchumine as it wouldnt seal very well around expanding metal and there is a danger of the tar sweating in the summer months.Anyway job done lots more to do
