A weird request from an irish-american friend of mine, he asked me what dragon was as gaeilge. I checked my dictionary and it says "dragan" - implying the same pronunciation as it's english version.. However, I remember a gaeilge textbook from school, maybe 15 years ago which from what i can remember was called "diarmad an dragún or dragoon" or something to that effect. I do remember pronouncing dragon as - "dra-goon".

Could someone clarify this for me as the dictionary says "dragan"? Does anybody remember the textbook in question btw?

Ó Dónaill's dictionary gives both versions. And I've heard a few different people I know mention Diarmuid an Dragún - he really seems to have made an impression on a segment of 80s-educated kids! :)

Well, the two people I'm thinking of are around 24, 25. Late 80s and early 90s, I suppose.

I had Ronán agus Áine in the earlier 80s!

I'm 25, so that would probably be right. Late 80's, early 90's. Anyways, I gave him the dragún version.

    Grma lads.
