CCleaner.exe - corrupt file, please run Chkdsk utility?

Hi there, can someone please tell me what to do thanks.

I have gone into Start-Run, typed in Chkdsk (i assume thats correct?) & it went upto 1-100% deleting corrupt files, none that i'd know.

But the CCleaner.exe bubble still comes up saying i've got to run the Chkdsk utility & comes up with a near different location on where there's a corrupt file.

I've updated it to correct version, but to no avail it still doesnt work?

    Thanks!

I have Win XP & running FireFox 2.

Thanks for any help received in this matter.

You can run CHKDSK from the recovery console. To do this you will need your XP installation disk. Its well documented on the net, check here on how to access the recovery console.

Thanks for the help Hal1, i'm afraid i dont have the XP installation disk, as it was pre-installed & thanks for the link as it will help a lot.

As i dont know a lot about this, is it serious or just a common thing to happen?

    Thanks again.

It depends what you do and use the pc for. Swaping data from one drive to another for example will increase the risk. Another thing that might cause this would be third party software / drivers.

The only data im aware of is, i was told the only way to burn divx files was to burn it as data, but i was using a DVD RW ( as i dont have any blank dvd's at the moment)
I forgot i have a Win XP PRO disc, as i got that of my brother, does it make a difference?

I dont really use the pc much just for browsin & burning stuff to disc thats about it really!

I did see one thing come up a lot, it was about something to do with Nero as i have the address on the pc taken down, what do you propose to do?

That will help, you can boot up hopefully with that disk and follow instructions mentioned above.

These things happen from time to time unfortunately.

Where did you see this? Nero would be the software you use for burning CD/DVD's. I doubt it's causing the problem with your system.

It was a pop-up bubble coming up when pressing 'Analyze this', showing me CCleaner.exe corrupt file in bold & then in text below:

    The file or directory

    C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\Locals~1\Temp\WER11dc.dir00\nero.exe.hdmp

    Thats the whole text!

Try uninstalling nero software if you haven't done so. Then navigate to C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\Locals~1\Temp\WER11dc.dir00\nero.exe.hdmp and delete it, run Ccleaner.exe.

Nah i wouldnt have done so, as this hasnt happened before til now!

If i uninstall Nero Software & delete the corrupt file & then install Nero again, is that the normal procedure for these things?

    Thanks.

    Hi there Hal1,

I've been working late the last while, but when you said uninstall nero, & delete the bugger that's causing this mayherm i assume you install it again?, pardon my ignorance, is that the correct procedure as i wouldnt know this part of it.

As you dont get to spend a lot of time on something technical that you barely know.

    Thanks for understanding!

Yes, you can install it again after a reboot of your system. Hopefully it was only nero that caused this in the first place. Ccleaner probably deleted a file used by nero during the registry scan. Just be sure to backup up the registry next time you run it. :)
