Trouble unsubscribing from unwanted texts

Is anyone else having trouble unsubscribing from unwanted texts?

I was receiving texts which had "no subject" in both the title and body of the text. I assumed they were from my mother as she has proven herself to be useless in the use of technology in the past.

However, recently I discovered they were subscription text messages which I DID NOT subscribe to which were costing me €36/month.

The ads on the radio say you can unsubscribe from text messages by texting STOP to the number the text came from, but there's no number given with these texts and there's no option to reply either.

    What can I do?

easiest way is to just contact your network, they can email the company and get them to unsubscribe you, and tell you which company is sending you the messages, the company is legally obligated to tell you how they got your number and what service got you subscribed, texting STOP back doesnt always work

Texting 'STOP' back is a joke. They may unsubscribe you from the service but they'll just add you then to a promotions database and pester you with promo texts and there's nothing illegal about this at present. Regtel is supposedly looking at this area again at the moment but given that it took a huge hue & cry for them to even put the 'stop' system in place I wouldn't hold your breath on getting anything substantive done to control these scummy companies.

Already I've heard the MD of Irish Psychos Live on the radio saying that these promotion texts are a valuable resource for 'customers' - I'm sure he meant victims - I'd love to have his mobile number...

Best advice is to contact your network in my opinion. If you don't feel like the agent knows what they're up to then ring back and speak to someone else (unfortunitly it does happen).
