Any chance you could enlighten us anymore on the subject yourself?

From what I gather (from 2 guys I know) they play football for DCU and have free accomodation, a bursery to assist them going to college and get well looked after....going to college is expensive business, fair play to them if they are good enough to benefit from it in this way. They train hard and represent the college in sport, more luck to them!

Getting good players from different counties together to train and play has got to be good for the developement of the game.
I really don't know alot of how this works but I think they can end up playing against their own club which is strange.

I expect if all colleges (or at least the bigger ones) had something similar then the standard of the colleges league would be extremely high (not saying its not good at the moment!) and the players clubs and counties would automatically benefit.

TBh it doesnt make a difference. DIT went out with half the stars that DCU had in their Academy that they so flaunt and when the going got tough DIT had more then enough bottle for them. It shows that real football has nothing to do with all these diets, weight training, or Academy's where everything is paid for including 08 Jeep's with DCU Academy written on it. It comes down to whoever wants it most and who's willing to fight for it. Having said that fair play to them that they can breeze through University, luckier then most and you cant deny the talent is there. I just dont agree with all this "academy" ****.

Did you agree with Tralee IT doing the exact same thing with a team that would beat most county sides and winning three Sigerson's in a row six years ago?

I'm sure Joyce, McGuinness & Donnellan (to name but three) all went down to Tralee because of the quality of the basket-weaving courses on offer down there..

Again most sides try "Buying" good players in for the want of a want of a better word. But did Tralee go around calling themselves "Tralee Academy of Football" I think not :D Its written all over the DCU jerseys, cars, etc. The do have unreal Puma Tracksuits it has to be said though :D
And by the way it wasnt just Tralee, in recent years Sligo IT, DCU and QUB have pretty much bought the Sigerson. This year UUJ have "bought" Sligo IT's "bought" players from last year: Andy Moran and Karl Lacey. But thats College football for ya :P
